I kind of like Junger’s “Battle As Inner Experience.” But he was a loser too, twice.

It’s worth reading, mainly for those opposing state actors. But honestly, I think playing Go is far more useful than reading Sun Tzu or Machiavelli.
Reading the German theorists is counterproductive unless you remember that they always lose.

They were both fucked up in their own ways, and ultimately sophomoric.

A low tolerance for ambiguity is a disorder, *not* a virtue.

One time when I was a teen she told me she got the “lovely daughter” comment. I said that was weird. Then she told me about my experience as a toddler. I ultimately figured out it was me. Weird 🤷‍♂️
All children should be free to figure themselves out. I was.

Never project your own control issues on an adversary. You’ll lose.

These types never got Irish Republicans either. That lapse was to our advantage.

Another large-scale deportation blitz hasn’t materialized in Chicago, despite warning of a spring surge A lot has changed since a source told the Chicago Sun-Times 1,000 agents could return this month. But immigration enforcement remains a key pillar of Trump’s second term, and ICE continues to hire and...

Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst. Our courageous comrades in Minnesota may have spared us a nightmare. But we have to keep our guard up.

I have a photo of us with that cop later in the day. It was a huge immigration march that went by ICE HQ. A small group suddenly pitched tents at ICE HQ.

I don’t remember getting clocked as a girl when I was a toddler. That was explained to me by my mother. My Dad loved my blonde curls, wouldn’t let anyone to cut my hair. My Mom told me she got frequent compliments on her “lovely daughter.”

Right? This shit would be hilarious if it weren’t so vicious.

Cops distracted, tension defused. ✊ I never heard the end of it from that bike squad, but it was worth it. I don’t think you were there for the surprise — it was part of a big march — but you were there.

I still play that game sometimes. My legs will get me clocked as a girl, so I wore booty shorts to an action involving a surprise element.
When the surprise popped, and the bike squad arrived, before I could get a word out of my mouth, the Lieutenant said: “Jerry, that hem is not regulation.”

Adults policing my gender identity, as proposed by this legislation, would have fucked me up. I was in the process of figuring that out myself. Coercion by authority figures would have distorted me.

Note: No sympathy required on the flak from the jocks. I may have been androgynous, but I was South Side Irish; we’re all fighters. The gay dude in my friend group packed a knockout punch. I was skinny, but had cunning, speed, and agility.

Did I catch some flak for that? Yes, but with adults it was about the political statement my appearance implied, and I’ve always been stubborn about politics. 🤷‍♂️
Peers, especially jocks, could get physical about it, but that was the pervasive homophobia, not transphobia.

Both as a toddler with long blonde curls, and later as a teen with a disheveled brown mop, I was frequently clocked as a girl. But this legislation adds a really vicious edge to that perverse dynamic.

You’re not really a Bluesky Elder unless you can look back fondly on the days when your entire feed was populated by Katie impersonators.

Chicago Police should be banned from engaging in traffic enforcement.

An acrylic painting of a skeleton framed head and shoulders leering at a Chicago-style hot dog it is holding in its hend. The hot dog has a little face that is just two eye holes and a mouth hole, and some spooky, ghosty green ectoplasmic things are floating up out of the little face holes. No I don't know why either.

I have once again been way off w/r/t actual painting so I wanted to mess with something small and low stress and dumb with no attachment to how it was going to turn out and I think it's safe to say I accomplished that

You can’t trust anything this guy says. He’s a good example of why I subscribe to the labeler that shows you who owns elected officials.

Booker is the Corporate Democrats’ favored stalking horse, expert with trial balloons that shine at first blush, but deflate on closer examination.

Not so obvious is the change in rent-a-cops. It used to be they’d defer to CPD on using muscle. But now they hire off duty Deputy Sheriffs, who don’t hesitate to get physical.
They don’t need both. It’s overkill.

Why I used the adjective ‘spectacular.’ It’s a deliberate effort at deterrence, ugly af.

But they fear “losing the lakefront.” And gentrification has flooded the zone with racist people who freak out at the sight of Black folks congregating.
I’d just as soon scare those folks out of the area. If a pack of Black teens freaks you out, you don’t belong here. GTFO.

The institutional memory of Chicago Police remembers the aftermath of White Flight, when most white folks were afraid to be downtown outside normal business hours.
I kind of liked it myself. It was a lot cooler, and young folks could go downtown and get rowdy without anyone siccing cops on them.

Seriously, Brandon Johnson should know better than to continue such a spectacularly racist policy.

He could be really good when he wanted to. He did a slender volume called “Descent To The Dead” about his trip to Ireland and the UK. He may be Orange, but he had good insight to Irish character.
