New to me: Dirty Data, a collaborative project featuring 40 journalists across Asia, Latin America, and Europe investigating data centers, their impacts, and how communities are fighting back against data center construction. The website includes original reporting and an interactive map.

The article should be a wakeup call to municipalities around the US. 1st, this emergency isn’t so sudden at all. There have been discussions for a decade. 2nd, instead of working to fix the impending disaster, the local community leaders kept adding huge industrial users. Sounds like data centers!

Haven’t seen actual receipts, but of the $280 billion, $52.7 billion was slated directly for semi-conductor manufacturing. The majority, or $200 billion, was for R&D and commercialization. Things like STEM and AI.
