I think one of my more under-appreciated paintings featuring Beyonce / Star Wars. I spent so much time getting that millenium falcon interior working! Also proud to capture 3 different Beyonce eras that matched up with those 3 characters.

Sending all the good vibes over to Bruce Campbell who was a huge part of my childhood with the Evil Dead franchise and Briscoe County Jr. Fuck cancer! We collaborated on this piece (he did the signature and the stink lines) with Babies / Evil Dead 2.

Speaking of Music and Star Wars, what about this Fender Guitars / Star Wars painting? A lot of detailing and thought went into all the choices here. I really love that with all these Star Wars paintings, there's hardly a repeated character. There's even so many I have yet to paint!

These were really deep cuts from two of the biggest franchises of all time. It's Star Wars (with Kashyyyk the Wookiee planet) and Pokemon (with Lucario and Infernape). We got real specific on these!

One of my favorite Star Wars characters Grand Admiral Thrawn is here combined with Tai Chi for a real moment of zen before he trashes all your heros. Can't wait for Ashoka season 2.

Speaking of "cartoon surrealism" I think this Sex in the City / Steak painting is where I've pushed that idea the farthest (so far). I just went back and repainted Samantha and I'm way happier with it. Staring at a painting for a year will lead you to dissect where you can improve it.

The Gilgal Sculpture park in SLC is a really amazing little visit. Some wonderful and weird finds all carved out of stone.

This Nutcracker / Ballet definitely fits within my "cartoon surrealism" work. Movement depicted as physical brushstrokes, sections treated in a cartoonish description set against sections depicted with more realism and an emphasis on bright color contrasts. One of my favorites.

I pass by this sculpture at Midway when I'm traveling through Chicago. Listen, artists know what they're doing. When you see something from afar and you think "hey, that looks like a guy with a giant boner" but then you get up close and instead "oh, that's just his leg": well, that was intended.

When I made this Ru Paul / Alien painting back in 2015, I went and interviewed a drag queen friend of mine about what would be shooting out of John Hurt. They said hair extensions, fake nails and fake eyelashes.

I know Carol was a real cornerstone movie for a lot of people. I'm glad that I got to capture Blanchette with Dean Winchester here in the censored version of the Carol / Supernatural bedroom painting.

I revisited this Sex in the City / Steaks painting to revise some thing that were bothering me. If I could, I'd take my paintings, let them set for a year and hop back into them if I saw anything differently. I often get caught up in the parts I love but then get a wider vision later. 143 Samantha
