We are not even “stuck between a rock and a hard place”. They’re both here. They’re both fully realized and without any input from the people in Iran.

What does it mean for Iranians to “support the Islamic republic” when they’re already in power, with an iron fist. What does it mean to “support US intervention” when they’re bombing us anyway.

My comment is more on the fact that people treat these two choices as though they are potential paths people *could* take when they are what our world is.

Exactly. I wouldn’t mind horrific opinions as much if they were paired with actually useful action instead of calling Iranian women whores or doing atrocity denials online.

We, here, can do basically nothing to support the people in Iran who took to the streets. And we can do basically nothing to bolster the regime that fucking massacred them. We can try and stop our government making things much much much worse. Why the fuck do we need to say anything else?

Like, in the UK now, it is probably possible to stop our government lending direct military support to the attack on Iran and it may be possible to stop indirect support. That's what we can do. That is the practical action. Why the fuck would we even argue about the Iranian government?

Like, the question has to be "what can I do, where I am with the capacity I have, to influence this situation?" And quite often the answer is "fuck all". Like, all the fucking western lefties with their "positions on Syria" that didn't matter a fuck and spiky so much fucking ink.

So like, this was always my problem with feeling like I had to take a "position" on a conflict I can't influence. With orgs feeling like they had to do "critical support" or "condemn both sides" or whatever. It's so abstract. So impotent and ridiculous.

Her vote aside, among white people across the political spectrum, it IS taboo to talk openly about their politics.

This is a grift designed to maintain white supremacy across political divide. To keep them communing along whiteness with their enemies & ideological opponents.

One of the most depressing things about the war in Iran is how a bunch of grown ass men are acting like this is a fucking video game.

I think I finally realized what bothers me even about the framing of Iran in discourse. People frame IR’s tyranny and US/Israel’s imperialist aggression as a choice to be made. Even the “good” leftists say “we reject both choices”. 2. The person who posted it clarified that's a misinterpretation
3. Instead of moving on, you did whatever the hell this was

Israeli media claiming 6 rockets were fired from Lebanon. All intercepted. Videos on Lebanese media show cars fleeing the south. No one has claimed responsibility for the rockets.
