Thanks that’s helpful. I’m not sure why we can’t just use current values and add a few more bands for council tax but I’ve probably missed the point!

Oh thank you - I missed that report (reading over my breakfast) so I’ll have a look!
Yes - except some houses are second homes and then first homes (or vice versa) so would you have some CGT (in addition to what you already have) and then some SDLT. So capping PPR would be easier - but the cost of all the additional reporting requirements- eek!
Yes I’m totally baffled. I wonder if they’d like to cap PPR but dare not and this suggestion is some sort of weird proxy
Anyone else seen the National Property tax story today and gone???
A tax on owner-occupiers if house over £500k - how will that interact with CGT and PPR? Will it be flat rate, will it apply regardless of if made a loss, if only 100% PPR. Too many thoughts!!
Anyone want me I’m just going to be sad because I missed a call from @mattchorley.bsky.social BBC Radio 5 Live show but I can’t work out researcher’s name on the voicemail so the central switchboard can’t help me call back. 😭
Apologies we were initially given a fix date of July, but incorrect Class 2 ‘corrections’ will continue to September now.

I’m looking to chat to someone who is about to start getting the new 30 funded nursery hours for their 9 month old baby. Grateful, as always, for any shares - thanks Bluesky

At the stage where willing to hire a sensible 12 year old to deal with these tasks. 😂
Their WiFi is awful (because I’ve never found the energy to deal with BT), the WiFi code is upstairs,
the iPad is too old for BBC Sounds app. Regular cries of ‘what’s that, can we delete it’.
Reader, a simple task became a tea and biscuits exercise. I’m shattered
The penance for not producing grandchildren is having to provide IT support to aged parents.
Today, transferred mum’s old iPad to Dad. Both are invested so both are ‘helping’. Neither knows any passwords…
Oh lovely, as a regular Ullswater swimmer I think I recognise the spot… If I’m right, please do check out my handmade swimming mugs in Colin’s shop, she says shamelessly if you are staying overnight 😊
I open my mouth to make small talk and suddenly my mother is talking 😱
Shout if I can help Jason. Talking to HMRC bereavement team on some P1000 issues atm.
Fantastic ending to Baroness Kidron's speech in the House of Lords yesterday, which led to the government's defeat on AI & copyright.
Speaking the UK's creators: "Their property, their labour, is worthy of your protection - because apart from anything else, it is not ours to give away."
Several ICAEW member firms have had their HMRC agent accounts being suspended without notice.
In its latest Agent Update, @HMRCgovuk explains why it takes this action and what agents need to do: ow.ly/UoWp50VrkNf

I’d offer to make you some curtains but I’m three years in my house and the roll of fabric I’ve got for mine is still propped up in my spare room so, yes… I’m making because I know how that works and I’m too scared to order something expensive and wrong. Good luck!
Sorry!!
argh no - only blinds are quick. It distressed the chap who came to measure up but by insisting on the simplest option (vertical and white), and not looking at the sample books all that’s left is where the cord goes and if they split middle/left/right. Ordered in 15mins. He fitted in under an hour
I mean, nice to have years of experience backed up by the OECD but just, I don’t know. It’s my age isn’t it 😔
A statement of the obvious by HMRC - incorrect pre population of data leads to worse outcomes for taxpayers
I know I’m middle aged but honestly, this had to be *researched*. Sigh
Surprising stuff compost. This half-used bag in my garden is growing a family of robins 🥰
First time I’ve been quoted in the Daily Star - no lettuces here mind:

I’m looking to chat to anyone who has used the Help To Save scheme to put some money aside and get the government bonus. Please do email me - felicity.hannah@bbc.co.uk if that’s you. And any shares gratefully received because it’s a little-known scheme
Oh that’s good news you now have it.
Argh yes - the info HMRC holds re banks needs to be in the Personal Tax Account so people can see it!
A friend had a similar problem but ended up having to write in with her id docs. Unless they can verify address you end up in circles (they won’t accept right address so you can’t clear security, you can’t change address as not cleared security) Gov G’way is either brilliant or Kafkaesque
Is there a ‘get help’ or ‘is there anything wrong with this page’ link anywhere. Might let you file an error report with HMRC online services and then they should come back to you
Normally I like working in the Easter hols as it’s quiet. But this year everyone is emailing me because everyone else is away and this is very much spoiling my peace.
