The only hardline is whether someone is *actually* hurting someone else irl. Feeling grossed out/offended is not the same as getting hurt and assuming someone is dangerous from the fiction they consume is cop shit. Thought Crimes are a fascist concept, censorship is a tool of oppression.

I love FD Signifier’s videos and I know how talking about covid in your work can make it bomb in the worst way, so I hope people take the time to watch this one.

AAA game development in 2026 is someone looking at a maximum player base of, say, 50 million people, setting a goal of 100 million people, then cutting jobs because they reached 60 million

The way skill tests work in the Essence20 system, it's hard to feel reliably competent at anything until rather high skill point investment and specialization. Past that characters are mostly trying not to be completely incompetent (which is the default for untrained skills).

Happy thoughts happy thoughts...

If I were to make one suggestion for Renegade's Essence20 system in any future revisions: either double the skill points per essence point, or sharply reduce the number of skills.

The only way to maintain a conservative position is to have a third grader’s understanding of history.

I realize the main reason the dems haven't already impeached anybody here is they fear it won't go anywhere with Rs controlling both houses. Sucks but I can see the math.

They better do something when that math changes, but I'm not optimistic.

Vote as progressive as you can in the primaries. I can't stomach Anthropic and AI shitheads stealing that from us.

But at the end of the day we need people who actually care about stopping American fascism, even if the otherwise suck.

Remember that elections are only part of the picture. Remember that electoralism is only about the system that exists.

We need people in office who care about making the system work, and unfortunately that means in some elections the best option still sucks.

Y'know. I'm alreading bracing myself for this midterm election season. People are going to come out of the woodwork to split leftists and left-liberals. The criticism of every moderate dem on the ballot is going to sky rocket exactly in time to demotivate voters.

We need to not fall for it.

One of my least favorite things around AI in video games is when these LLM idiots try to say that "AI has been in video games for decades," as if the routines that tell ghosts to chase Pac-Man are exactly the same as the chat bot claiming there are nine Rs in strawberry.

The worst offender in this regard was absolutely Portrait of Ruin.

It's not that there wasn't cool stuff in PoR. The game just felt uninterested in actually having a personality. The drab character portraits and knock-off shounen manga writing did not help.

Apropos of nothing much: One of my BIG problems with a lot of later IGA-vanias was how much the room layouts felt like template connecting rooms with enemies just dropped it.

IGA did put cool stuff in the games, but to me it often felt arbitrarily placed and disconnected from the surrounding area

As a player reading some of these can be mystifying to me.

Like, a dead end with nothing in it isn't "incomplete" if it's got cute little details giving it a sense of place. And template hallway isn't MORE complete in comparison just for having a treasure chest in it.

Stories aren’t meant to go on forever. They are by nature of being stories, supposed to end. And that’s why continuously updates IP never sits well with me. just cause characters can be β€œimmortal” doesn’t mean they should be…

I think you may be misunderstanding me a bit, here.

The point I'm making is: Obama has the charisma to sell the public on pretty moderate positions*. Contrast with Chuck Schumer, for example.

My frustration is the party coalescing around moderate policy rather than charismatic leadership.

Obama saying shit like this is why I feel like shouting at elected Dems on repeat: Obama wasn't popular for his politics. Obama is charismatic enough to sell his politics. Without his personal charm he'd just come off as another unremarkable "centrist"

Star Trek Into Darkness (2013)

Abrams isn't a man so much as he's an avatar of cultural entropy. If you make something popular enough eventually you will die or sell it off and and a person in thick rimmed glasses whose main artistic vision is that he loves to have meetings will take it and sandblast it until it's nothing. I hate to see this happen here but maybe it's good that this happened. Maybe every franchise should collapse into a version of itself that makes shareholders nod and shake each others' hands. We should learn to speak in a language that rich people who don't dream can't comprehend.

I don't know how Ted Woolsey was able to translate the plot into anything halfway coherent with so little text space.

The way spell names in menus are mismatched to their call-outs when used in battle is proof enough the translation wasn't given enough time or testing.

Proper item & skill descriptions didn't become standard in games until a fair bit later, but BoF1's text is still sparse even by those standards. The result is more on the level of Phantasy Star II (1989) than US Final Fantasy II (1990).

14.02.2026 09:45 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

In BoF1 and BoF4, the ENTIRE party travels together and swapping the active party is pretty easy, even in battle. BoF2 would have been massively improved if it had done the same.

14.02.2026 09:29 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

I don't know where the game's development took a turn, but the game we got (esp. in English), is actually pretty primitive in execution for a '93 title. BoF2, a little over a year later, feels more restrained but also delivers on its ideas better.

Shame BoF2 ditched the easy party swap mechanics.
