We are recruiting a PhD student!
A fully-funded position at The University of Newcastle, Australia. The candidate will be part of a team investigating how the sperm RNA profile is shaped. See more in link below or get in touch.
Male mice exposed to PFAS (an environmental contaminant) have reduced sperm production but normal sperm viability & motility. Embryos created by IVF with PFAS-treated sperm have disrupted transcriptomes suggesting possible transgenerational effects.

Are you exploring sperm biology, male infertility, or contraceptive development?
π’ Weβve just released a comprehensive step-by-step guide (preprint) to generate and analyse human sperm phosphoproteomes; a crucial but underexplored area.

If you're interested read it in Reproduction! Big thanks to the team!
The 'swollen' phenotype was from epididymal tubule breakdown and cell infiltration and was accompanied by many gene changes. Interestingly, while offspring of germ-free dads didn't show the severe swollen epididymis, they shared many epididymal gene changes.
Working with germ-free mice with the Kambayashi Lab we saw a 'swollen' epididymal phenotype occurring, so we took a closer look doi.org/10.1530/REP-...
Australia is known for its hot conditions, but new findings from HMRI's Infertility and Reproduction research program have found that heatwave conditions can impact the health of sperm. Learn more hmri.org.au/news-and-sto...
Happy to have contributed to this led by the Nixon lab. We helped show temperarure can alter sperm small RNAs which modulate postfertiilzation embryonic gene expression and development in π
