LATEST: Keir Starmer has been accused of a "direct assault" on devolution after a leaked memo revealed him suggesting the UK Government should be prepared to go against the wishes of devolved nations
Read here: www.thenational.scot/news/2...

In 2010, a blog like Stuff White People Like or a twitter account like shitmydadsays could land their creator a book deal or a TV show.
In 2026, social media creators are writing and directing short films and playing every role - to this standard - and there's another one right after in the feed.
[Scene is a domestic kitchen. Night time. The room is all blue apart from warm orange-pink light streaming in from a streetlight outside. In the center of the room stands a woman named BRANDI, standing in pyjamas looking contemplative, the light cast dramatically on her face. At the doorway, leaning against the frame, her partner JOEL stands has woken up and found her in the kitchen.] JOEL: Honeyβ¦ what are you doing? BRANDI: Canβt sleep Guess I just like standing in the kitchen at 3am thinking about the supernatural threat we temporarily defeated last year. While saying that out loud in a manner which sounds casually ironic but is actually just blatant exposition. JOEL: Brandiβ¦ you're talking strange... BRANDI: Dammit Joel. Itβs time you knew. You're a Netflix character. [Joel looks shocked] BRANDI: Everybody you know has been forced to speak to you in second screen dialogue. Second screen dialogue helps the people scrolling their phones in front of the TV to follow the - JOEL: Stop explaining, Brandi! [Hands on head, emotional expression, warm pink light cast on his face against the cool blue darkness of the room]. JOEL: So that's why my entire life has looked so glossy and... BRANDI: Yep... Warm/cool colour graded. [Cut to a TV show TITLE SCREEN]: SECOND SCREEN - A Netflix original - [Ends]
We bought a coat rack, and I hung it up today.

Definitely worth a read. And worth thinking about too:
Picture of Jeane Freeman
Jeane Freeman 1953-2026
Theirs was a demonstration of remarkable service to others - thatβs how I think of Jeane. (And in the front row, third to the left of the woman in black, hand on hip under the cloak - thatβs nurse Louisa Jordan).
Huge love to Susan and the family.
In a way her approach was simple - once there is a deal in place to get something done then you better keep up your end of it, as she certainly would keep up hers.
When she βretiredβ from Parliament I sent her a picture of a group from the Scottish Womenβs Hospitals for Foreign Service from 1914β¦
Absolutely core to Jeaneβs view of the world was the wellbeing of others, particularly those whose voices werenβt always being heard.
Heartbroken that Jeanne has passed away. I was her Spad when she was Health Secretary, she was just remarkable. Thatβs a tough job at the best of times, but Jeane did it during the pandemic.

I have cleaned-up this fascinating autochrome of James Thin (famous for his chain of bookshops), who was born 202 years ago (in Edinburgh on 23rd March 1824), making him (so far as is currently known) the earliest-born person ever to have been photographed in colour. He is seen here in the garden...
