Season 2, Episode 2 is live. I set a goal to finish my fantasy sequel this year. Then I started writing something else instead. It’s about guilt, distraction, and the quiet fear of disappointing those who trusted me to entertain them.

Okay. I'm about to go watch the presentation now before I see any more 😂
It was only a matter of time before I broke and went hauling 😅
What happens when the thing you love working on isn’t the thing you’re supposed to be finishing? Episode 2 next Sunday.

I made the book trailer for this one. Came out really cool!

For two months, my life was ruled by a little red light on a film set. Now I’m home. The quiet feels strange. The desk feels unfamiliar. And I’m trying to figure out how to be a writer again.

Season 2 begins this Sunday.
Episode 1 — returning home to create, after a long absence.
If you read The Calculating Stars and enjoyed it, The Fated Sky is a must-read sequel. Here's my personal review:

I made my first Short Film.
If you're a fantasy reader, you'll know this feeling.

Agreed. Again, this isn't about whether or not we believe it's an easy judgment call. Just about how he's seeing things as an imperfect individual from within the group, not like us, looking from the outside with a more objective lens. He's in a real moral dilemma.
I agree. But my point still stands. They can change. I'm just trying to bring some perspective to why Sanderson behaves the way that he does. He doesn't want to leave the church because he believes leaving it would be wrong. At the same time, he believes their policies are wrong.
Fair counterpoint.
But I understand if you disagree. I can't say you're wrong for how you'd approach it.
The LDS church is very isolated. If he were to stop being in good standing, he'd lose the ability to influence their subculture. It'd be like someone trying to influence politics of a country by leaving and letting those who disagree with them replace his voice.
To him—a believer in his religion—he doesn't want to throw out the baby with the bathwater. It's possible to believe in something, but disagree with its execution. I'm not suggesting that I think he's right. Just that it's possible that he's trying.
They were also anti-black, but that changed. Reckoning with your beliefs is a tricky thing, especially in a very legalistic sect like the LDS church. His openly disagreeing is a radical protest from within. I'm just providing perspective as someone raised in a fundamentalist sect.
He is a walking advertisement for the church. If he wasn't, he would have already lost his standing in the church for his views. The Mormon church tends to change over time to adapt to society. He probably knows that, and his power is pressure in a certain direction.
I'm not saying I approve. But most Christian churches officially reject LGBTQ, and most encourage tithing (as encouraged by the bible). Sanderson isn't unique there. Sanderson's views actively push the LDS to change because they don't want to lose him as a public figure. Again, I don't approve.
Aside from a preference for digestion time, The Hero of Ages by Brandon Sanderson checked my boxes. Here's my personal review:

Some fantasy books entertain you. A few impress you. But once in a while, one reminds you why you ever loved stories in the first place.

While my preferences in fiction typically require a bit more action/adventure, my interest in Jane and Vincent's functional and cute relationship has endeared me to this series.

The first two drafts of phase one of book 2 (that sounds more complicated than it is) is complete. This was the biggest hurdle for book 2. There will be other challenges, but I front-loaded the hard part.
Ever feel like everyone else is pulling ahead while you're just… stuck? That’s what this video is about. If you’ve ever felt behind in life, this one's for you.

I write badass characters slaying dragons. I enjoy combining action with character-driven stories that feature diverse heroes and heroines. Want a badass samurai or a badass monster hunter? I got you. ⚔️
