These days, indy publishers like Sapere seem to be where the opportunities for debut authors are. It will be interesting to hear the publisher's perspective on that.

A pair of thoroughly accomplished authors talking about their craft. It's going to be a fun evening.
It was some poor so-and-so coming home from his fifth night shift in a row, wasn't it? The master of austerity doesn't understand that people who do actual jobs get actually tired.
This will be one to look forward to. Chris is a great speaker on the the topic of how far we can trust our own perceptions.
I'm very impressed at how 19th century America not-colonised its way from 13 colonies on the east coast all the way to the Pacfic. Then fought the not-colonial banana wars across the Caribbean and Central America.
Let's be real here. Trump's behaviour is abhorrent but its values are very American.
"There is no sane world in which a bunch of people get to decide the next prime minister because they happen to be stupid enough to have joined a political party."
@iandunt.bsky.social hitting the nail on its most depressing head.

I fear that it's not the likelihood of death squads that the Telegraph considers unhinged. It's the suggestion that death squads may not be a good idea.
"You take away the right to abortion, no-fault divorce and you gerrymander all the electoral districts. And then you say, you elected this guy, you married this guy, you chose to have that baby. You have a revealed preference for all of them."
Cory Doctorow on how neoliberals think we choose things
When they're talking about us plebs being economically productive, that's the quiet part. She seems happy to say it out loud when it's about killing her dogs.
Which is to say that she is not fit to have a dog, let alone an opinion worth listening to.
And it's out.
Honoured to be in there along with @robgillham.bsky.social, @karldandenell.bsky.social, @deborahldavitt.bsky.social, @liamjhogan.bsky.social and those who aren’t on Bsky yet.
And thanks to @chalkscribblers.bsky.social for critiquing two of the stories in the issue.
The tech journalists are saying the Metaverse is dying because no one is interested but come on, we all know it's thanks to Hiro and YT.

Has someone finally found Richard Tice's soul?
What's the point of putting up a prat repellent only to move it when the prats are repelled?
Do we have to wait for them to do it? Can't we classify all the techbro billionaires as Roderick Spode the first, second, third etc and all their products as their cow creamers?
Not really a surprise that he was off shirking in the midst of a crisis but... Carrie bought the stumbling bumbler a motorbike? Was she hoping he was going to break his neck before his next marriage?

'The true nature of this country is openness, tolerance and generosity. We want to provide sanctuary to those in danger.'
1st sentence (hopefully) true. 2nd sentence obvious codswallop.
She's trying to play to two audiences at once without giving a thought to to right thing to do.

'As we restore control to our borders, I will therefore open new, capped, safe and legal routes for genuine refugees. While these will be modest at first, they will grow in time.'
1st sentence true. 2nd sentence, well, I'll believe it when I see it.

'These reforms bear down on illegal migration. They tackle the factors that draw people on to small boats to make perilous Channel crossings.'
1st sentence true. 2nd sentence codswallop.

'I know this country is an open, tolerant and generous place. And I am proud of the fact that we have always offered sanctuary to those fleeing peril'.

Oh no. They've got to the point where they're proudly announcing that they're planning to be wrong in every conceivable way in advance.
Who the hell does she think this is playing with?
Fully agree. One doesn't have to be uncritical of the BBC to object to a foreign plutocrat trying to reshape our media landscape to his convenience. To accept that is to accept everything that's wrong with the BBC being pushed into being more wrong.
Watch in horror as Bloomsbury boss throws his authors, his editors and his publicity department under the same bus with a few short soundbites. Who says AI can't inspire a good soundbite?

Or do you mean he's popular with racists?
How is that a counterpoint?
He gave an after dinner talk at an event hosted by racists who make racist statements on their Facebook page and acted shocked when they turned out to be racists - or perhaps, when the press found out he'd been there.
Mis-spelling? Maybe. Counterpoint? No.
JRM doesn't specify that he meant a king of England. He just referred to 'the last king'. Most of these responses are filling in that blank for him, which involves making the rather kindly assumption that he was far less clueless than the statement implies.
The optometrist clicks between lenses. "Better or worse?" "Better." Click. "Now?" Everything sharpens—too sharp. My husband's lies written on his skin like tattoos. My daughter's fears hovering above her head. Strangers' grief trailing them like exhaust. "Worse," I whisper. She removes the lens. Blessed blur returns. "Most people choose that," she says, making notes. "Twenty-twenty truth isn't covered by insurance." She hands me my old prescription. I sign the paperwork. --- *Enjoyed today's story? This explains so much. If we could just persuade them to experience flavour, they'd discover joy and leave all the bitterness and spite behind.
Another event to look forward to.
This should be good. Sheyla always has interesting and encouraging things to say.
Is this another one that might be interesting to @writingcommunity.bsky.social?
Is he promising a 45min response to pot holes if he's allowed to do whatever he wants again?
