I don't think people understand that if you shut down the government, ICE and CBP do NOT shut down. They're funded by supplemental money from the BBB. That's why dems are separating the DHS funding bill and asking for restrictions. I want them to demand a rescission of that funding or shut DHS down
Honestly, I miss the summer of 1996. I had just turned 18, registered to vote, and was full of optimism about the future ahead. The world was shit then, too, I just didn’t realize how shit yet.

Vimes Boot Theory is genius. Also, ISWM really tells the story of what happens when hate about a particular group spreads, which seems like something we should all be aware of (looking at my own country with a hard stare).

I can’t recall which of the #uglydogs asked about books, but seeing @mac-b5.stickimporters.com collection of discworld novels inspired me to start rereading them on my 3 week journey to my father’s memorial. Currently reading I Shall Wear Midnight.

Okay, so I agree..a bit. The US is gigantic, geographically. I feel like many residents don’t get that. We ARE taking to the streets. But also, kinda hard to quantify an entire nation compared to a much smaller one ,
Most of the people I know don’t have guns. Sure, lots of people do, but many of them are the ones still supporting what is happening. I know nothing about guns other than they kill people.
Daily I have to remind myself that this is actually happening. It’s so horrible it feels like a satire.
Sadly aware of this. Somehow my state voted to keep the regs that allow it in prisons recently.
Actually, some of the countries people are being deported to are well
known for enslaving prisoners. And they are classifying those refugees as prisoners.

Charles de Lint is another great rec. Lots of social commentary interwoven with North American indigenous tribal mythology. A bit darker than Terry Pratchett, but I loved them just as much.
The first book of his I read was the Wee Free Men. Loved it, immediately was hooked, and have since read them all. I think you can really start anywhere.
