Edgar Friendly (Demolition Man): You see, according to Cocteau's plan I'm the enemy, 'cause I like to think; I like to read. I'm into freedom of speech and freedom of choiceβ¦.I've SEEN the future. Do you know what it is?a 47 y.o..drinking a banana-broccoli shake, singing "I'm an Oscar Meyer Wiener".
I wish that instead of hitting a heart to indicate that you acknowledge a post wasnβt the only option. Is there another that Iβm not aware of?
π
Yep. In this country anywayβ¦ π
Myra Solano Garcia, who has Alzheimer's, says the drug Kisunla may be one reason she can still drive, cook, and sing.

Donβt get distractedβthatβs exactly what they want. Stay focused.
Concerns arose when it was suggested that employeesβ personal data be aggregated in ways that would violate privacy laws without consent. When an employee raised this issue, the response was that they would βtry to get consent,β but that it shouldnβt stop them from moving forward with the project.
While Trump has been distracting America with everything else, Elon Muskβs staffers are quietly taking over NOAA and the Department of Labor. They are also using AI to help rewrite a significant portion of the federal governmentβs computer systems.
Not surprised. Folks are already quieter.
This is me, screaming inside when I read things coming from the orange one and his minions.
A tweet by Michael McFaul (@McFaul) that reads: "In 2012, when I was the US ambassador to Russia, Putin shut down USAID inside Russia. Why? Because their work supported free markets, democracy, human rights β ie causes that threatened Putin's dictatorship. Shutting down USAID is exactly what autocrats all over the world want."
Putin is full out celebrating our idiocy.
a circular design with the header "Project 2025 Targeted:" and the footer "These Words" the following words and phrases appear around the circle, each in their own individual crosshaired circle Gender Sensitive Sexual Orientation Gender Identity Abortion Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Reproductive Rights Reproductive Health Gender Equity Gender Awareness Gender
a bright purple oval and a florescent green target crosshairs design, with a grumpy Heritage Foundation Liberty Bell to the side. Main text is a quote from Project 2025: "The next conservative President must make the Institutions of civil society hard targets for woke culture warriors. This starts with deleting the terms sexual orientation and gender identity (SOGI, diversity, equity, and inclusion ('DEI'), gender, gender equality, gender equity, gender awareness, gender-sensitive, abortion, reproductive health, reproductive rights, and any other term used to deprive Americans of their First Amendment rights out of every federal rule, agency regulation, and piece of legislation that exists."
Cartoon grumpy computer mouse / bug critter mascot, asking the following questions. (Obviously this was written back in August. August me had no idea about how this would all fall out. Now we know better.) Banning words from laws? Could this be done? Legally, I mean? How would you even...? Unlike other project 2025 proposals, this one doesn't mention any specific policies, programs, or methods, so who knows...? BUT This passage tells us a LOT about the people who wrote it.
cartoon mouse mascot again: SO, CLASS. WHAT DO YOU THINK? IN PREPARATION FOR THE FINAL EXAM THIS NOVEMBER, PLEASE TAKE THE FOLLOWING QUIZ. WRITE YOUR ANSWERS ON A SEPARATE SHEET OF PAPER. following questions are overlaid on a photo of a composition book: 1. Looking at the forbidden words from our text, what groups of people are the writers afraid of? How afraid are they? 2. Who do they want YOU to be afraid of? Why? 3. Are any of these people in your community? 4. If you answered "no" to the last question, are you sure? 5. Have you ever worked for a boss who felt personally threatened by a group of their own employees? What was that experience like? 6. Historically, which leaders have urged their citizens to despise other citizens? 7. Which leaders have decreed the outright banning of words or concepts? 8. And how did that all turn out? "WILL THIS BE GRADED?" WHAT KIND OF QUESTION IS THAT? OF COURSE IT WILL BE GRADED! THIS IS A PIVOTAL MOMENT! DO YOU THINK HISTORY DOESN'T CARE WHAT YOU DECIDE?? NOW STOP COMPLAINING AND GET TO WORK!
Oh look, if it isnβt another key Project 2025 talking point being enacted in real time. Whaddya know. π
(News item: CDC orders mass retraction and revision of submitted research across all scientific/medical journals, requiring the elimination of certain banned words and phrases. Link in comments.)
So I wonder what would happen if we all went back to mail in paper tax forms? Part of me also wants to say βFuck youβ to filing taxes in the first place if all our tax money is just going to the oligarchs. We know where that will get usβ¦ every time I look at the news I just feel sick.

I hear that. Was thinking of you and the folks Iβve been working closely with. This whole thing is stressful and I am concerned, to say the least.
All I want to do is just not think and keep knitting. I have to watch the politics because the things that are happening are seriously damaging my calm and fucking with my livelihood and my ability to support those I work for.

Is it weird that all I want to do these days is sit and knit?
