Signing of the Washington Naval Treaty, February 6, 1922.
On this day in 1922, the Washington Naval Treaty is signed by representatives of Great Britain, the United States, Japan, France and Italy. The treaty limited numbers of warships by establishing tonnage limits for each nation, and included a "building holiday" for battleships.

Speed of change: Wyoming (BB32) was launched in 1911, just 57 years after Matthew Perry opened up Japan with steam-powered paddle ships
USS Nimitz was launched in 1967, 56 years later after Wyoming was launched & is still in service 57 years later in 2024...

Back after a couple of weeks. Terrible times for Ukraine, European, and global security, but great time now if you're a dictator
Anyway, here's a pic of the Massachusetts (BB59) in all her coloured glory

Putin Is Not Yet Desperate
Economic pain wonβt turn the tide in Ukraine.
Good piece by Alexandra Prokopenko. More and more one heard the thinking that Russiaβs economic woes could prove decisive this year. The cracks are visible, and growing. But the timelines donβt align well for this to decide events in 2025. www.foreignaffairs.com/ukraine/puti...

My book uses the writings and perspectives of enlisted men in order to show that eighteenth-century battles were a negotiation of authority between officers and their men. The officers wanted the men to fight like they do in the movies. The men weren't having it. 8/20

It's ultimate aim is to whitewash the myriad of crime that rivals the Holocaust in Europe. Historians need to push back against this. Japan (as well as Germany & Italy) was never the victim of the War, & will never be

It's also interesting to note that arguments for victimisation of Japan are common in both the far left in the West & the far right in Japan. In all cases, it minimises the suffering of victims & places the blame of war on the United States

The only victims here are those of Nanking, Manila, Unit 731, Baatan Death March, Burma Railway, Comfort women, Sook Ching, & countless others who died due to disease & starvation under Japanese Occupation.

It's been very fashionable of late to focus on the atomic bombings & rewrite the narrative that Japan is a victim of WW2 & that violence was inflicted upon it by the US. We have to be 100% clear: Japan was NEVER a victim of the War
