Hi @asianstudies.org colleagues: my panel has been assigned the dreaded Sunday morning slot & doesn't appear in the app for some reason. Would be great to see you there 🥲

Fukushima Daiichi seemed like a pretty good argument for shutting down “perfectly operable” plants at the time.
Are fossil fuels better – hell no
Does it make sense to restart or keep operating highly subsidized existing reactors despite cheaper and greener alternatives – I don’t think so.
Arguing for NPPs because of their useful byproducts seems like a straw man argument to me, just as arguing that fossil fuels are worse than nuclear power.
Useful byproducts like radio-isotopes for nuclear medicine aren’t completely dependent on nuclear power plants. Research reactors and particle accelerators/cyclotrons are a cheaper alternatives than simply building new NPPs for that.
Simply ignoring regulations and stable operation („because everyone is afraid“) would mean sacrificing the “incredible safe” record of nuclear power.
Japan still doesn’t have a final storage facility (and none in sight). The 六ヶ所村核燃料再処理施設 in Rokkasho alone is the best example for countless delays, safety issues & exploding costs ( fissilematerials.org/blog/2025/06... ).
I‘m pretty sure I won’t be able to convince you (or Emily) because this is not how the internet works, but even from a cost/benefit perspective it’s not worthwhile ( thebulletin.org/2025/12/nucl... ). Renewables are just as safe and far cheaper and quicker to build.

it has tons of historical precedent, the main thing that fascists do when they get in power is ruin the country. it is easy to understand. like what are you talking about
Why? The conversation surrounding nuclear power should be about how it’s too slow and expensive compared to renewable and sustainable alternatives. Also having to ensure it’s safety is a huge disadvantage. This plays into the question whether to do it or not.

Was hast du geschaut?
🧵I keep reading that men go to war or that one island because of their desire. But in order to desire, you have to accept that you lack. These men think they (should) have everything, but feel it’s not enough. Having to have possession over humans and wielding objects to destroy them is jouissance.
what
#iwd26
oh no, alles alles Gute ❤️🩹
on this #feministresistanceday our fight for equality includes questioning and examining deepseated prejudices and preconceived notions resulting from unacknowledged privilege and intentionally veiled power dynamics.
Gaslighting, Silencing, Disziplinierung, uswusf. Das sollte man(n) sich bewusst machen.
In 2013 Aaron Swartz committed suicide for facing 35 years in prison for mass downloading scientific articles.
13 years later, Meta is almost getting away with an infraction orders of magnitude larger.
The law didn't change.

Sir Gawain Fucks the Green Knight Here’s a tale ripe for telling. Can’t say where I heard it first—in pretty French or Dutch. Perhaps as a young lady walking ‘longside the Rijn. I’ll spin it for you in an English tongue, fine as frost on lace, sweet as malmsey wine. So it goes that young Gawain, strength kissed into his limbs, fresh as the bright dawn, comes trembling down to the Green Chapel. You’ve heard this tale, I know. His breath makes peach fuzz in the air, fear into him like worm to apple. Christmas Morn is too soon, time is short. You have your own life to save, he says, picking through thorn and bough to an ivy-clad cave. The creature is the Jack O’ the Glen / forest prince / the wood’s own laughter. Beard of lichen and eyes like dark elder. I need not repeat their exchange—my boy’s flinching heart—a songbird in a rattled cage. It is after the blows are dealt, he asks, what god is worshipped in these green trees? Boy, the Knight replies, boy, were you not just down on your knees? The Knight is the tang of sap / bark rough and petal soft / everywhere leaves scatter / easily crushed / Gawain clings / hardly knows what he clings to / he is the forest and the flower / a turmoil of roots / where god and tree meet and melt / the birch the oak the fern the deer / mushroom maggot crow / here Gawain is branch and bud / blow returned for blow
This is a sheer indulgence on my part, but it turns out I never actually shared the poem here, so:

Schön muss er sein, der Frauenkörper. Sonst schaut man sich den Geist lieber nicht an!
