First volume is just Normandy I think.
First volume is just Normandy I think.
Of course there is @reassesshistory.bsky.social's long anticipated account of 53rd Welsh, hopefully coming out this year.
I saw that Jack Diddens did a book about 51st Highland Division in Pheasant, but it's long out of print. When I eventually make a trip to the Overloon museum, I will have to make an investment in those tomes you recommend!
I've struggled to find a single good account of it, beyond Wikipedia. Lots of divisional history browsing needed yesterday to put the lines of advance together!
Well spotted!
A composite map of the southern Netherlands, showing an approximate front line of 21st Army Group in October 1944, with divisonal objectives for Operation Pheasant.
Sometimes if you have want to get your head round something, you just have to get a map out. (why yes, I have spent most of my evening doing this.) #WW2
Dakka dakka dakka dakka!
Nice to see some BTH at a lardy day!

Next month I've somehow found myself part of this insanity.
It means me doing 492 rope climbs in 22 hours.
I'm old and have only three fully functioning limbs ...
It would be most kind if you'd donate even a quid towards this for the Teenage Cancer Trust.
Thanks.

You could have saved yourself a lot of time and effort by just selling a kidney.
Oh and incorporating musketry and infantry melle is wonderful.
It's a while since I looked at it, and it was definitely not the easiest set of rules to read(!), but I liked the sense of needing to have a battle plan which you can only tweak by committing your CinC.
One day, when I am old and grey, I will finally get round to doing 6mm armies for this and give it a proper go. There is a lot to like in there.
Jealous! Hope you have a great time Annie!
I'll be over within the hour.
Sounds good!
Interesting. By platoon level, do they mean that's the highest level of command ala CoC? Or that platoon is the smallest unit of manoeuvre?
Sorry to hear you've been poorly Ally. Hope to see you at a lardy event soon π
Phwoar, jealous!

Had forgotten about this. They were good games!
Currently recovering after #WinterWonderLard yesterday! π€ͺ 'The Dojjibotti Run' Indian Mutiny #SharpPractice game went well and everyone said they enjoyed it. Didn't get a chance to see much else but feedback overwhelmingly positive. Thanks to everyone who put a game on or attended. #SpreadTheLard
Gave my #WinterWonderLardVI Indian Mutiny game (the Dojjibotti Run) a go last night with @andycrow.bsky.social, Phil and Jack. Went well, rockets a hoot, a couple of tweaks and should be good for tomorrow... #SpreadTheLard
RIP John Virgo. Head up to the big snooker club in the sky, and give the good Lord a trickshot challenge to ponder.
John Virgo has died. I'd like to think at his funeral as the casket is being lowered somebody says; hang on, where's the coffin going?

RIP John Virgo. Thanks for making it worth staying in on a Saturday night as a kid.
Some wrong-warring for you. Colonial victims of the German breakout from the Meuse in 1940 #WW2 π«π·
British victory in tonight's Normandy '44 #ChainOfCommand game. Pretty attritional game livened up by @andycrow.bsky.social deciding to charge a Sherman with a team of German infantry (who all died!) #SpreadTheLard
