My takeaway is that you’ve gotta just defend your priorities.
- make the time for the family
- set boundaries with people who are toxic
- give yourself and friends grace if you don’t see them as often as you’d like
And take care of yourself. It’s just part of the arc of life.
I’ve noticed a general frustration in many people in this age range. They describe a pressure and overwhelming sense that things feel off or just harder.
It’s not to say all of this will happen to someone in that era, but it’s when these things tend to play out.
I’d argue the age range of 35-45 is one of the most taxing mentally.
- Your parents’ age begins to show
- Friends groups splinters as some have kids, some don’t
- Careers hit hiccups or strides
- People you know die unexpectedly due to health issues
- Friends develop substance or drinking issues
Our daughter wanted to go shopping at Target for her birthday.
Each kid got a $25 budget and 10 minutes to shop.
✅ Cheaper than a regular party
✅ No need to schedule
✅ The staff gave them stickers
✅ They each got a treat from Starbucks
El Dusty and I talked about the fact that all our music is the same. Tejano is just country for Mexicans that grew up in Texas.

You don’t have to be a Tejano to enjoy the culture or music. In all likelihood you already do by eating at our restaurants.
Go a step further and dig into the music and people next door.

Folks spend real money going to Mexico to experience the culture yet will change the station if Tejano or Mexican music is on the radio.
