A reminder: if you want to support my work, buying my book is a great way to do that.
If you want to read a book about how to get into fighting games, buying my book is also a great way to do that, but if you don't have the $ you can just DL it for free.

Hailey is one of the coolest people I know, and I'm so proud to be her friend. She's a trans writer, activist & educator.
She's been having a rough time because her mother has cancer and she's been unable to work.
I would consider it a personal kindness if you could give whatever you can spare <3

James Van Der Beek, Dawson's Creek Star and Father of 6, Dies at 48 After Cancer Journey
James Van Der Beek has died after he was diagnosed with stage 3 colorectal cancer in August 2024. The actor was best known for playing Dawson Leery on 'Dawson's Creek'.
James Van Der Beek was part of one of the most influential shows of a certain era, a show that loomed large to a certain generation of critics. Beyond that, he was talented, willing to poke fun at himself & seemed like a good man. Extremely sad news. Way, way too young. π people.com/james-van-de...

First, I want to extend my gratitude to all the people
who have reached out from across the country and around the world to support our family.
This kindness of strangers is the most fitting tribute because if you ever encountered my wife, Renee Nicole Macklin Good, you know that above all else, she was kind, In fact, kindness radiated out of her.
Renee sparkled. She literally sparkled. I mean, she didn't wear glitter but I swear she had sparkles coming out of her pores. All the time. You might think it was just my love talking but her family said the same thing. Renee was made of sunshine,
Renee lived by an overarching belief: there is kindness in the world and we need to do everything we can to find it Where it resides and nurture it where it needs to grow Renee was a Christian who knew that all religions teach the same essential truth: we are here to love each other, care for each other, and keep each other safe and whole.
Like people have done across place and time, we moved to make a better life for ourselves. We chose Minnesota to make our home. Our whole extended road trip here, we held hands in the car while our son drew all over the windows to pass the time and the miles,
What we found when we got here was a vibrant and welcoming community, we made friends and spread joy: And while any place we were together was home, there was a strong shared sense here in Minneapolis that we were looking out for each other. Here, I had finally found peace and safe harbor. That has been taken from me forever.
We were raising our son to believe that no matter where you come from or what you look like, all of us deserve compassion and kindness. Renee lived this belief every day. She is pure love. She is pure joy. She is pure sunshine
On Wednesday, January 7th, we stopped to support our neighbors. We had whistles. They had guns.
Renee leaves behind three extraordinary children; the youngest is just six years old and already lost his father. I am now left to raise our son and to continue teaching him, as Renee believed, that there are people building a better world for him. That the people who did this had fear and anger in their hearts, and we need to show them a better way.
We thank you for the privacy you are granting our family as we grieve. We thank you for ensuring that Renee's legacy is one of kindness and love. We honor her memory by living her values: rejecting hate and choosing compassion, turning away from fear and pursuing peace, refusing division and knowing we must come together to build a world where we all come home safe to the people we love. E
Renee Macklin Good's wife, Becca Good, released a statement and it moved me to sobbing tears:

A writer is a person who cares what words mean, what they say, how they say it. Writers know words are their way towards truth and freedom, and so they use them with care, with thought, with fear, with delight. By using words well they strengthen their souls.

Richard Dansky Game Writers Guide at the Game Your Future Conference 2025

Back in November, I gave a talk at a conference in Baltimore about The Video Game Writer's Guide to Surviving an Industry That Hates You. It's a little freeform and unstructured, but that was kind of the point, and everyone seemed to have a good time.

AV Club: Yeah, sorry for dragging this one up. But this was a movie where you appeared alongside Gary Busey, who plays a software tycoon who dies and is reincarnated as a dog. Buseyβs such a weirdo force-of-nature that we have to ask about working with him
Curtis Armstrong: It was just what youβd imagine. Thatβs about the best way to put it. We were shooting this movieβwhich is a horrible movieβand he was supposed to come back from the dead. And he of course, Gary Busey, supposedly had done thisβheβd been in an accident and died and came back. He showed up on a set made to look like Heaven, and he looked around and said, βI canβt play this scene.β They were three days behind at this point. But Busey said, βItβs nothing like this. Iβve been to Heaven and it doesnβt look like this. That sofaβs all wrong. That mirror is ridiculous. They donβt even have mirrors!β It was ridiculous. He was completely nuts about the design of Heaven.
But then on top of it, one of the guys playing an angel, had also died and come back. And this guy got into an argument with Busey about the way Heaven looked! The two of them wound up coming to blows and they had to send everybody home. So there you go. Thatβs what we were working with.
If nothing else, if not for the AV Club's Random Roles, there's a decent chance we'd never have had the opportunity for Curtis Armstrong to tell his story about working on the Gary Busey film "Quigley".
