It sucks dude
It sucks dude
I strongly advise this strategy if you ever feel like gambling; you get the thrill of being right without the agony of draining your bank account
i don't gamble actual money, but every season i keep a spreadsheet of picks on Wolves games using real Vegas lines. I only "wager" on a team i know well & only on the 30% of games i feel most confident about. Even wagering in this very limited fashion, it seems nearly impossible to make money
the michael jordan of RHODE ISLAND? Donte DiVincenzo is a proud son of delaware sir
you may think this is the marquee matchup of the night but you would be missing out on the miami heat v washington wizards game, two very real and respectable basketball teams. watch this space
Bam shamelessly trying to get to 82 and the wizards fouling whenever he passes the ball is incredible televison
damn that was a crazy basketball game dude

I really cannot recommend this one enough. You have double-crossing dames, hoodlums planning a caper in a smoke-filled apartment, down-on-their luck boxers, dogged insurance adjusters. Burt Lancaster is oozing charisma in his film debut. Not enough Ava Gardner but that's true of almost every movie.
Favorite Shot #1: First, what a crazy angle to shoot a window from. Already a striking shot from beginning, but then the camera turns and we're looking down at the gang of criminals from above. Absolutely delightful. Robert Siodmak, I am sorry. I was not familiar with your game.
Favorite Shot #2: The centerpiece of the movie is another absolutely insane long take, this time of a $250,000 (5 million today) payroll heist in its entirety. Damn! Check out that crane action. This is some crazy shit to be doing in 1946!
Favorite shot #3: After a god-tier opening scene (the two hitmen cracking wise at the diner) you get this beautiful long take through the Swede's bedroom window. Lancaster's face in shadow is a great shot all on its own.
A still from The Killers (1946): Ava Gardner sings while Burt Lancaster ogles her while Virginia Christine frets at him while a waiter offers her a drink
A still from The Killers (1946): Burt Lancaster walks down a bright street in silhouette
A still from The Killers (1946): Burt Lancaster hunched over on a boxing mat while the crowd watches anxiously
A still from The Killers (1946): Edmond O'Brien in a bar sitting in front of a mirror
The Killers (1946): The platonic ideal of by-the-book film noir. Double Indemnity (1944) + Citizne Kane (1941). Great lines ("What did Pete Lunn ever do to you? "He never had a chance to do anything to us. He never even seen us. He's only going to see us once.") and really potent frame-to-frame.
whenever asian markets are in turmoil this is all I can think of
a great time at the movies
The need for things to keep escalating means that the final showdown is a little more action-heavy than the movie is built to handle. And the last coda on the train is pretty predicable. But overall I had a pretty good time!
Favorite Shot: This nice little crane move past the neon sign of the bar
Red Rock West (1993): We need to go back to making twisty neo-noirs for dumb guys. The plotting in this one is sublime (down-on-his-luck drifter gets mistaken for a contract killer, makes off with the payment then runs afoul of the real hitman) & John Dahl is competent behind the camera. JT Walsh!!
Guy friends be like
every state plus guam, puerto rico, and the district of columbia should have its own jonathan richman. why should massachusetts have all the fun
i'll take it!
time for the soothing balm of Inside Man (2006)
best wolves sequence of the season?
It brings me no pleasure to report that tonight's wolves pick is Raptors +180. Don't have a good feeling about this one
david roddy you are a legend and i will remember you (because i describe any thick basketball players having "a roddy body")
yeah it has turned me into an absolute Mazzula Respecter
screenshot of cleaning the glass. Every single team in the top 8 of net rating is in the top 1 1 of both offense and defense
i don't know if i remember an nba season where all the contenders were so balanced. every single one of the best eight teams in the league are top 11 in both offense and defense
A still from Silence (2016): Three men walk under a huge rock formation on the coast of japan
One quibble: Why did Driver and Garfield do Portuguese accents? Canonically they are speaking Portuguese not English, just have them talk normal imo. Neeson wisely avoids it.
Favorite shot: Whoever did the location scouting and found this crazy rock/cave deserves a big raise. Absolutely stunning
A still from Silence (2016): two men rest their heads together in profile
KichijirΕ is such a great character. I think i might also be a coward in this situation! But man what if you trampled and your whole family wouldn't. But the fact that he keeps coming back over and over for one more reconciliation is so good. The final one is really touching
Silence (2016): Gorgeous moment-to-moment, frame-to-frame. I was worried it might just be a depiction of noble suffering over the first two hours but then Liam Neeson shows up. Obviously there is a bunch of suffering but it really kicks into gear. My wife is v catholic so a lot of it really hits
Wolves allowing a 17-point lead with 3 minutes left to get into clutch time with 33 seconds left to pad the clutch time wins. Chess not checkers.
