Ensure your content budget strategy makes ‘open’ a commitment, and is signed off at the highest level. Another great point from Pete Barr. There’s important ‘soft politics’ here. Do we have the diplomacy and leadership skills to be sure we can make this approach succeed? #CopimConference

It's a _master's thesis_, it's not that deep. (And even if it wasn't, it's her work, she can dedicate it to whoever she likes.)
I'm pretty sure I put my cat in the "thanks and dedication" section of my MA.

various scripts for performing functions against PKP OJS or OMP instances - UoEMainLibrary/pkp_scripts
I'm upgrading a bunch of OJS and OMP instances now I'm working as part of @edinburghdiamond.bsky.social and SCURL Open Hosting. Upgrading these applications is fiddly as heck so I've written scripts to make my life easier and maybe anyone else who regularly works on OJS/OMP.

Just casually ruminating how a certain VC backed this man like his life depended on it till @tristanoscars.bsky.social and I went on telly to suggest he cease that.
Not that I think there'll be a real consequence (for this, or his other alleged wrongdoings), but it's a start...

Open source registries underfunded as security costs rise
fosdem 2026: Free beer is great. Securing the keg costs money
"Python's PyPI registry bandwidth needs for shipping copies of its 700,000+ packages (amounting to 747PB annually at a sustained rate of 189 Gbps) are underwritten by Fastly, for instance. Otherwise, the project would have to pony up about $1.8 million a month."

Very nice! Mine will be a slow process, I suspect.
So far, Morrisons limoncello reigns supreme here. Tesco's gingerbread I am not convinced by (too sweet), nor their chocolate (a bit too heavy). I am looking forward to my John Lewis once and the special ones from the Italian store!

I was on a video call with a friend, walking around my house, but had forgotten I bought (just over) my height in panettone this year.
I forgot that what I affectionately call "panettone mountain" is in fact a freak occurrence in most people's eyes 😅

I'm so sorry if you are here to read about libraries and publishing - especially if this is how you find out what all these words mean. But take solace in that you didn't get jumpscared with F1 RPF when you were looking for bread recipe inspiration.

Between being a nerd who reads the occasional manga and following Formula 1 since my partner is a fan, my Instagram algorithm has decided I must be an F1 fujoshi which feels deeply humiliating - despite this /not/ being the case. If anything, I'm confused as to what's going on.

You can read Jonathan Adams’ summary of the Clarivate report in Research Professional News (which Clarivate also owns) here: The US research empire is in retreat. Jonathan writes:
Across the board, China appears to be a game-changer for the US’s place in global science. China’s annual research output of papers in journals indexed in Web of Science has grown from fewer than 30,000 in 2000 to more than 850,000 in 2024, passing the US in 2020. China’s citation impact is now also well above the world average. China is less internationally networked than other major research powers: only 20 per cent of its output is internationally co-authored.
Once you’ve read the report, you may want to dip into: Why the world must wake up to China’s science leadership and also China accounts for more than half of leading output in the applied sciences.
"China’s citation impact is now also well above the world average."
Sinophobia is about to do more to de-emphasize focus on citation impact metrics than all 13 years of SF DORA combined...

I've considered starting a spreadsheet to track it, just to see which _are_ correct. I can probably go back through my recent watchlist and sent a DM?
That being said: we thought we'd finally see what Yuri on Ice was all about (I know, I know) and the intro has different captions every time.

I've got a new piece at @lseimpactblog.bsky.social today following on from my previous piece about the British Library cyberattack and arguing that, since the UK Government clearly doesn't care about the UK knowledge sector, we need to develop our own community-led tech and infrastructure solutions.
