Well let's just take Yuichi Yokoyama comics for example. Not expecting you to know him, but the characters are not named. There is no story or narrative to trace. It is all about The Thing.
Great art can elevate subpar writing, great writing has a lot more trouble elevating subpar art.
There are comics that are completely alien-feeling and have zero people in it.
Interesting, though i don't feel yours needs it unless it has +100 new pages.
Woah looks amazing! I'll buy it soon.
Then why don't we do something about it? Peaceful protest is never going to work.
This looks like a lot of fun!
any of your books in us shops?
I like Lale Westvind most to him, or at least on Plaza, lots of kinetic energy and motion, though Yokoyama is focused on different things other than that.
Cultural impact does not matter to me.. Yuichi Yokoyama's Plaza is one of my favorite of all time but I know he's too abstract for most people. Just a fascinating creator unlike anyone else.
I'm just waiting for the inevitable print version (are you going with strangers publishing for these shorter books or sticking with fantagraphics?) Either way, i'll be there.
Thought this was going to be a shorter book, looks like it's gonna be longer. Cool.
Unfortunately the art thrives in larger editions and it looks like it will be just a measly 7.8 inches. Still cool though.
I hope you 2 do Shade The Changing Man for the new Vertigo re-launch... this would be so fitting !
Ahh i see, so the UK does require this. Yeah, that does kind of stink. But I would say the UK is no utopia either. You do have plenty of time and options to think about what you're doing.
That's the thing, they already have/had their major success, they don't need some arbitrary review as a mark of success. I'd say you're doing quite well at the moment.
I honestly don't think a review would have changed anything. It's hard to move into a new country period.
The heavy metal / metal hurlant creators are all pretty legendary and many people are inspired by them to this day. It takes a while to get to that point. Caza, Moebius, Druillet, Crepax, Manara. Etc etc.
I actually think that whole crew has published some of the best art in comics, period!
I wouldn't say that's you, your books are more naturalist and thoughtful. That being said, Heavy Metal is far more popular than anything Fantagraphics has published aside from like, Peanuts.
And fanta themselves publish plenty of dumb stoner comics and the like. There's room for everything.
Idk, maybe recommending someone that doesn't like their art (right now) isn't the best.. but i think the daily routine is getting to you.
I do think you could benefit from changing up your daily grind with agos and other solo comics. I wouldn't say that fanta does non fantasy comics, cause they do.
Like you've said, maybe collaborating, trying different types of comics when you're ready. Maybe do posters like Deforge does!
Having or not having a partner does not define you. Does it make some things easier? Yes. At the same time, it's a lot of work!
I'm not an artist, but I was severely depressed. Some things that have helped me are;
Having a variety of hobbies. E.g reading for inspiration. Go outside for a walk throughout the day and talk to people. Maybe even draw at a park for a bit. Even just spending time AROUND people helps.
I don't see why not. He's taking up all of SFB's licenses.
Looks great! GBB has been putting out / licensing an insane amount of books..
My brain was fried while I was writing this. Bluntly, the point of our new platform is that it will make it INCREDIBLY EASY for shops to carry our titles & restock, and is loaded with functionality designed to make managing their account & orders with us painless. Should make all our lives easier.
Btw how much a fan are you of Autechre, they are one of the greatest.
Somewhat.. maybe inspired,by someone in particular.
