I'm inclined to do the same for my train+walk commute, which costs me about 27£/week on average. The ~1h 15m commute each way is my investment in my mental and physical health.
I find Brooks really good for my feet and heels etc. But they don't last very long anymore. On my current pair of Brooks Trace, I have done just over 300km and the fabric is coming apart in one foot. It can probably be fixed and patched up to last a bit longer, but it's disappointing.
Long time followers may remember that for awhile, I had an active small publishing business on the side. When I returned to being a full time employee, I had to wind down the publishing - I just didn't have time to do it justice. But I still have some books under contract, and I pay out royalties.
