The is the federal government telling news stations to provide favorable coverage of the war or their licenses will be pulled.

A truly extraordinary moment.

We aren't on the verge of a totalitarian takeover. WE ARE IN THE MIDDLE OF IT.

Act like it.

Do you know how strange it is to be scrolling Texas primary results and see a Dem in every single race?

People who have been awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor, and lived to tell the tale - a large number are awarded posthumously - say it's for the worst day in your life, which you wish never happened.

And Trump jokes about getting one.

Please read this long but important thread from an immigration defense attorney.

If this administration is permitted to scale its current abuse, neglect, and inhumane treatment of immigrants to the breadth and scope for which they’re currently planning, we’ll all be witness to mass atrocities.

Control of the House isn't going to come down to a small number of close races; the military seizing ballots would lead to riots in the streets; the "incumbent Republican majority" will be dissolved on January 3rd so it won't be there to do anything.

It's a nightmare in that it's entirely made up.

Puerto Rico faced a massive power outage. Why does this keep happening? Puerto Rico's hurricane-battered power grid has suffered compounding crises including hurricanes and financial problems.

Your periodic reminder that almost 9 years after Hurricane Maria, Puerto Rico still doesn't have a functioning power grid.

So, remember that Episcopal bishop in New Hampshire that told priests to get their wills in order because β€œwe are entering a new era of martyrdom"?

I ran across historical precedent for that today.

It's from a radio transcript @rns.org produced about a Lutheran bishop in Denmark…

…in 1943.

People keep saying this and sure it’s possible but these guys are from Texas. There have been people with Hispanic names living in Texas since long before it was a U.S. state. It’s possible their families have been in Texas longer than most commenters’ families have been in America.

I’ve been thinking more about this nonsense and what it means. I don’t think it’s a flex β€” a performative expression of power and intimidation β€” like the advertisements for ICE positions. Too obscure and lacking in flair. Instead I think it likely reflects real internal problems.

A partially-redacted copy of a formerly secret January 31, 1958, memorandum concerning a telephone call from Air Force Chief of Staff General Thomas White to the Secretary of State (handled by his special assistant) about the accident at Sidi Slimane Air Base.

An excerpt:

β€œGeneral White telephoned me in the absence of Mr. White to say that a B-47 loaded with β€œone of those things” had just crashed in [REDACTED]. None of the crew was injured, there was no explosion, no radiation and no harmful effects whatsoever. The General also said that a representative [REDACTED] knows about the crash and has inquired as to whether a nuclear bomb might have been aboard the plane. General White says that he and the Air Force feel that this is an excellent opportunity to issue a public statement regarding crashes of planes loaded with nuclear weapons and that such a statement could also have a beneficial effect on the similar problem being discussed [redacted].”

A color photograph of a B36 thermonuclear bomb, painted Army green (except for four thick rings around its front and mid-sections and its tail fins, which are bright yellow), strapped to a large wheeled dolly and on display at an Air Force museum under a plane. Information about the bomb is stenciled in white on its casing on the nose and near the tail fins. A man in blue jeans and a plaid shirt is reading an informational sign below the bomb.

OTD in 1958, a US B-47 bomber carrying a B36 thermonuclear bomb while simulating a takeoff at Sidi Slimane Air Base, Morocco, caught fire when a rear tire blew out. The aircraft was quickly engulfed in flames and the base was evacuated. The fire burned for 7 hours, melting the bomb’s plutonium core.
