Yet another Washingtonian pushing the ubiquitous Nats/DC sports, Penn State, transit, bicycling, #dckayaking, broomball, skiing, gin & tonic agenda. Raising a family in Alexandria. https://www.yurasko.net/wfy/ | https://www.dckayaking.com/

I was up until 5 a.m. two Thursdays ago, in part because the hosting vendor didn't pick-up the phone/check email for three hours.
Maybe the future mechanical engineer in the household will not have that kind of experience...

I remember the library being the first "big" ride with my oldest. He'll be in college in a few months.
Granted, the library was about 1.5 miles roundtrip, but it was a start...
One thing I feel ought to be discussed more is the fact that basically all rural and suburban places in the US are subsidized by cities. They resent cities. They insult cities. They elect politicians who abuse cities. But none of them could survive without cities.
Also, I will never visit the Del Ray Cafe
do they complain about Neil O'Donnell and Kordell Stewart? Do they praise Andy Van Slyke more than they should?
in practice, the opposition believes that the city should prioritize an out of state car over an Alexandria resident on a bicycle or walking
A friend of mine from Belfast said "the Irish invented bagpipes. We didn't tell the Scottish it was a joke."

Look forward to Tuesday night by joining District Broomball. It's like hockey in shoes. Never played? Next Tuesday, March 3 we have a learn-to-play pick-up game. Spring season begins March 10. It's Tucker Road Ice Rink. Details: www.yurasko.net/wfy/2026/02/...
When the Statue of Freedom was being refurbished back in the 90s, the sky crane carrying it flew right over my house in Vienna carrying it. I just happened to catch it threw the window one weekend morning while I was still in bed.
8W - A25
8Z/21C - A28
Thankfully, the A28 is running more buses in the morning, so the trade-off of the longer, (sometimes snowcrete covered) walk is worth it, I suppose.
Not building the BRAC building here instead of Mark Center will always be a blunder
if it was still the 8W it'd be fuller...
it probably takes 4 weeks to complete

I'm so old I remember when the Free Lance star had a Nats beatwriter
Also, the Wizards radio PxP guy used to call out twitter uses commenting during games and one of them was named Budd Dwyer which blew my mind
now, that's a name I haven't heard in a long time, but it came up a bit in class at at Penn State in the late 1990s
How many do you have in general?
I wish lots of places had as much community journalism as Alexandria has and I have so many thoughts about it all after 14 years in MSM and a media studies B.A.
I bet you would have edited the statement better than I did - fixed.
