This year's Hugo Awards finally include a poetry category. I'm so glad. Here's a random speculative poem found at Worldcon this year.
Some cat vigorously objected to me leaving the bed by draping himself dramatically over me. You win, Lord Peter.
And then, after nearly giving up ever reading that amazing series again, you go to a science fiction convention and find a copy of the paperback, same edition you owned previously, for three bucks?
In related news I am re-reading John Varley's Titan/Wizard/Demon trilogy after 30+ years.
Did you ever read a book series you loved so much that when you lost a copy of one of the books, you swore off re-reading it until you could replace the copy? And then discovered the book has been out of print for about 30 years?
spotted a Bear today!
Dear friends, the news is awful. Stay alive today.

All style and grace, my tuxedo cat!
As a Jewish Sci Fi nerd, I appreciate rewrites by fans who like different endings/new characters/changed plot lines/slightly different rules with internal reasons. Ergo, that book Christians call the Bible is Torah fan fiction!
Took a staff member and two student nurses to a community organizing meeting focusing on building cooling stations in the neighborhood. Their first time seeing how disparate groups come together for a common cause. I love introducing people to ways we create change.
Just led a Seder at a kinky conference and one thing remains the same: a bear burst into tears. Hugs all around to those who bless their cracked and broken edges tonight!
Dear NYC friends, If you have plans to go away in mid May and need someone to keep an eye on your home/pet, hit me up! My pet sitter will be in town and is looking for sits! Highly recommended and dependable.
It's a terrific organization!
This is my go to federal agency. I work with older adults who are not on Medicaid, but are in fixed incomes. I use their research outcomes to determine programming and services to keep seniors living independently. I am devastated. www.forbes.com/sites/howard...
Visiting Greenpoint today and had the best cream of mushroom soup ever at Pyza.
I spent the day at home, sobbing and cleaning. I recommend anyone who has access to sick days to do the same!

I love Charles White's work.
4/4 I am grieving for the time of strong unions, when Lordestown was the center of domestic car manufacturing, and when a middle-class family could purchase a house and send children to college on a single salary. I am mourning the loss of my childhood innocence and hope for the future.
3/4 But the sedan lines that I was used to driving all my life have disappeared - the Ford Fairmonts, the Chevy Impalas, the Buick Regals, the Chrysler 300's, the Oldsmobile Cutlass Supremes... gone. SUVs, trucks, and other tank-sized vehicles are now the domain of the US.
2/4 I am a Michigan girl. I remember when the UAW was one of the strongest unions in this country. When we started importing Japanese cars in the 1970s, you rarely saw them in Michigan. When we did, people vandalized them, seeing these imports as the beginning of the end of the power of unions.
1/4 Our 2019 Ford Fusion developed a serious problem that, while fixable, would cost us over $4,000 We both prefer sedans, and for me that meant having to do something I have not ever considered in the last 40+ years of driving a car: purchasing a vehicle with a Japanese name.
