She tapes her hands in silence. Outside the locker room, the crowd chants a name that isn’t hers. They don’t know her. Not really. They know the boxer, the woman who doesn’t flinch, who never turns down a fight, no matter how bloody it gets. But they don’t know the way she hums under her breath, an old lullaby her mother sang once. They don’t know that her first fight was to get her baby brother out of their father’s fists. They don’t know the notebook in her bag, filled with dreams written in cramped, neat lines. They don’t know her dreams, and wouldn’t believe it if they saw them. The myth was too strong. The bell rings. She steps out. Twelve ounces of leather on each hand. Twelve years of fury in her chest. She isn't fighting her opponent. She’s fighting herself, her pain, her demons. One punch at a time. And every punch is a prayer.
