Our sources indicate the OCS wire likely snapped due to electrical arcing while a train (LRV 1166) was stationary. Ice created a gap between the pantograph and the wire, disrupting constant contact. The resulting arcing burned through the contact wire, leading to the break. ⚡️🚆

My personal theory is the section east of the tunnel was built first when the team was getting experience. West of the tunnel was done later by a more practiced crew.

Getting the weather report for Nunavut (-51 with windchill) always puts Ottawa weather in a better perspective.
