I've always hoped that AV would be combined with OC and VC with 91 to reduce redundancies with Amtrak service and open up greater connection-free possibilities. If service frequency is targeted to be the same on all of these lines (91 exempted), this would be the optimal solution IMO

Yep! Surfliner in LA. I also think that the Texas Eagle reverses in Fort Worth unless it has been shifted to the TRE alignment already.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) β€” Alberto CastaΓ±eda MondragΓ³n says his memory was so jumbled after a beating by immigration officers that he initially could not remember he had a daughter and still struggles to recall treasured moments like the night he taught her to dance.

But the violence he endured last month in Minnesota while being detained is seared into his battered brain.

He remembers Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents pulling him from a friend’s car on Jan. 8 outside a St. Paul shopping center and throwing him to the ground, handcuffing him, then punching him and striking his head with a steel baton. He remembers being dragged into an SUV and taken to a detention facility, where he said he was beaten again.

He also remembers the emergency room and the intense pain from eight skull fractures and five life-threatening brain hemorrhages.

ICE told nurses this Minneapolis man β€œpurposefully ran headfirst into a brick wall.”

What actually happened is that they pulled him from a car, beat him so viciously with a steel baton that he had 8 skull fractures, 5 life-threatening brain hemorrhages, and couldn’t remember he had a daughter.

Of course, building 100,000s of units of infill would (a) derisk the pool and (b) provide Californians in fire risk areas an alternative. Unfortunately, the state has opted for the "suicide pact" option.

I sometimes wish the Democratic Party in Congress consisted of any 260 people in the Minneapolis telephone directory rather than the 260 dignitaries now representing us.

they're executing moms and nurses in the street. they're using preschoolers as bait. they're stealing people's dads and grandmas and children. they're tear gassing babies. they're staking out schools. there is no remedy but abolition. any proposal that doesn't start there is an act of violence.

He was directing traffic around an ICE operation on Eat Street, looking out for public safety. Then he was shielding another protester with his body while ICE pepper sprayed them both.

He died protecting his community.

He should be alive to tell the story.

Abolish ICE forever.

Props to the lady giving an interview in her pink UFFDA hat and saying, "well, gosh, I've never had tear gas and flashbangs shot at me, but I'm happy to take it so my neighbors are safe."

Policy idea for upcoming RHNA cycle: housing needs/zoning capacity scaled with median home prices by zip code. RHNA need calculated base level everywhere. If >$1M, increased by 100%, greater than $2M, increased by 200%, greater than >3M, increased 300%, etc.

Found out that the game does not have free transfers when riders are switching lines - shuttles will always perform worse than branches as each connection is penalized by non-integrated fares, and bridge tolls are not factored into trip-sim. How very apt as a real-world comparison...

that add interest/variability to routine travel patterns. I don't segregate road by direction of travel unless it's a divided highway; otherwise, once it has been traced, it's good and not repeated. Anyway, here is the link! www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/e...

I love this project for its ability to remind me of where I've been and how I navigate my City. As a planner, it's fun to see the way in which I travel, how travel patterns may change, and of small variations in daily travel (i.e. construction or snow reroutes)...

Once more as I did in 2024, the past year I documented every single segment of road on which I was a driver and/or passenger in a vehicle (car, bus). Linked is my 2025 map, showing all road segments from Hawaii, to NYC, to back home in MN and California.

In 2026, California should take what it learned from this task force as well as what overwhelming evidence suggests and introduce a weight tax for passenger vehicles. Non-commercial SUVs and pickup trucks should be prohibitively expensive to own and operate.

Part of it could be the fact that before the last decade, all SoCal lanes were quadruple-yellow striped, and now more closely mirror the Bay’s single dashed white line. The mental separation barrier of the lanes was more ingrained in SoCal drivers vs the Bay where it’s just another lane, sorta

S.F. voters closer to weighing in β€” again β€” on fate of Great Highway Sunset Supervisor Alan Wong said he’d back a ballot measure to reopen the city’s westernmost coastal boulevard to cars, closing Sunset Dunes park.

It is actually insane that this is probably going to go up for another vote. Perfect example of why it's so hard to get anything done in San Francisco. www.sfchronicle.com/sf/article/s...

If the worst single-family house in your n’hood costs over $1 million, then your n’hood should be zoned for apartment buildings.

(It’s pretty much that simple)

While I have been somewhat skeptical of Mamdani’s proposal to make the bus free, funding it with paid parking would be good policy and good politics.

In July 2024, a rent control policy went into effect in portions of Montgomery County Maryland that capped annual rent increases at CPI + 3% (max 6%) for buildings older than 23-years old.

New multifamily permits dropped from 2,093 in the first 8-months of 2024 to 54 in 2025.

Bottle of wine meme. Top: Thanks for having us at your lovely home.

Middle: Look I just think we need to add more housing in the places where people want to live, like near jobs, schools, and transit

Bottom: Single family zoning was explicitly invented as a facially race-neutral policy to preserve residential segregation and
"local control" is the "states' rights" of our time.

Alaska isn’t exactly legacy, but it’s Seattle operation and DL’s Seattle presence also come to mind. Alaska is quite nearly a legacy in many respects, though I understand the distinction drawn here.

There’s just absolutely no piece of me (wholly biased take) that can’t believe in the omission of SF and SD from this list. You can’t say with unlimited money you’d rather just be in Baltimore I can’t have this
