At the end of a continuing-ed ASL class I took, our Deaf teacher said "Every single one of you now signs better than everyone in my family."

A father and son get in a car crash and are rushed to the hospital. The father dies. The boy is taken to the operating room and Frankenstein says, β€œI can operate on this boy.”

How is this possible?

A: Frankenstein is the doctor.

Current 93 has so many marvelous songs with marvelous titles that it's hard to pick just one, but let's say The Descent of Long Satan and Babylon

I spent decades, DECADES, thinking I couldn't possibly have ADHD because I was early for everything and everybody knows ADHD means lateness!

Same same. This is a "gift"(?) that my narcissistic mother left me with. As long as I can remember, I've been hypertuned to the disappointment that my actions engendered in her (and thus, by extension, everyone ever lol lol, it's a work in progress)

Finally she said, "I don't understand when people are doing this in real life, either", and my heart broke for her. I think this particular person had issues specific to herself, but I often wonder if the whole world (and definitely Bluesky) is turning into her.

I once tutored a student who was assigned a (Steinbeck? idr) story where a gangster was threatening a shopkeeper in this way. She could NOT parse his threats as anything but friendliness, even after I walked her through the signs that all the "I want the best for you" stuff was insincere.

I had a friend who was a science tutor for upgrading (adult) high school students, and he said he got a couple of these every year. "You know physics. This perpetual motion magnet machine I drew on a receipt is a winner, right?"

The most unsubtle, heavy-handed claims made by pomo academic types have turned out to all be true. Gender is a relation of domination that requires constant, affirming witness. Capitalism will require extractive colonial relations. There’s no subtlety. Every day is like a 101 seminar at Oberlin.

I knew a guy in university, many years ago now, who went on to do graduate research on the history of this food pyramid grift in Canada. Not enough of us are suspicious of how many servings of dairy are considered mandatory for health lol

Anyway, "it's canon" and "it's canonical" mean different things, just as "it's science" and "it's scientific" mean different things, or "it's gold" vs. "it's golden", and so on. It's truth. It's also true.

Thanks for this. I was having a Chair-Company-ass time trying to figure out where to report it. Every link eventually bumped me to the instructions, including the links I followed IN the instructions!

Bible Gateway passage: 1 Samuel 10:21-23 - New Revised Standard Version Updated Edition He brought the tribe of Benjamin near by its families, and the family of the Matrites was taken by lot. Finally he brought the family of the Matrites near man by man, and Saul the son of Kish was take...

I always thought Saul was pretty autistic-coded.

About 18 hours into what was supposed to be a direct three-hour flight, I found myself in an airport hundreds of miles from my destination, no rebooking in sight. Wearily I asked the desk clerk at the airport hotel for the cheapest room they had. "You got it, Captain," she said. Captain?
