How could anyone see this coming from Ted "Slapshot" Carter
His prose is, by far, the most offensive part of the whole schtick. The most egregious form of subbing overtly performative and purposefully indecipherably complex prose to express ideas that are not nearly as complex as their hubris implies
HELL YA!!!!!!
That's a gopher my guy
Oops not virtual presentation, but virtual participation! Was too excited lol

IDK if they made this intentional, but having Jar Jar voting for the complete consolidation of power because he was given a responsibility he was never worthy of only to realize he made a grave mistake and then does the bare minimum to fix it is a perfect encapsulation of the modern democratic party
Good call on this, can def hear the possible influence! Also love "the third-wave ghetto" lol
On one hand, it would probably help if I submitted about music people know and care about
On the other hand, "Topanga Lawrence" by Charmer is an absolute gem of a tune

Happy to return the favor too btw
(I think I have a very strong conference presentation record, especially for a grad student and often get high praise for my presentations. I just find it funny that I have never gotten accepted to preset for the main conference in my home discipline lol)
Me: I don't even care about SMT, I don't even really do music theory actually
Also me: Getting into SMT is my white whale, it is the only thing that will bring joy to me
hey does someone who gets accepted to SMT wanna look at my abstract and tell me why I'm gonna get rejected from SMT again
As a former minneapolis resident, I can sign off on pizza luce
Thanks carl!
I get that, it's just hard for me to know when you post... if you even just dm me or shoot me an email or tag iaspm in a second tweet, I can make sure it gets boosted! Just wanted to ensure it gets as many eyes as possible!
Hey Carl, when you announce these can you tag @iaspm-us.bsky.social so I can re-tweet it there? Thanks!
Nancy Fraser's Cannibal Capitalism is a really good exploration of this idea (also see Seymour's The Rise of Disaster Nationalism)
Breaking News: Local Man discovers Horn Call topic
Sources suggest they are just days away from discovering the pastoral

Taylor's Music And Capitalism: A History of The Present has a chapter like this iirc. Robin James work is clearly inspired by Marx too
think about how many public academic buildings that are in constant use 9 months of the year are falling apart, but no infrastructure bill would ever consider giving funding towards upgrading. It's an easy way to center university's as part of a towns economy but would be alien to us politcs
also worth noting that the economic ramifications from the decrease in protections factors into america's declining economy. Part of the reason the Chinese economy is booming is because they are so heavily invested in public spending like academia
