A man asked me last night what publishing needs to do for literary fiction to begin appealing to men again. I said, as nicely as I could, that, with over 2,000 books published every Tuesday, of which many would appeal to men, itโ€™s not a publishing problem, itโ€™s a men problem.

Translator math is starting another translation to take a break from the first one...

...then starting a third translation to take a break from the second one, and so on in a never-ending Mรถbius strip.

When Prince sings โ€œanimals strike curious posesโ€ what is the first animal you think of and what pose is it striking? For me itโ€™s a lemur up on its hind legs looking around in mild alarm.

Dear @lucympowell.bsky.social,

I have enjoyed our exchange of letters about which of our parties is best placed to stop Reform. Hannah Spencer MP and I trust that you agree that this question has now been resolved once and for all.

Thanks,
Zack Polanski

Hannah Spencer: the Green MP speaking to everyday peopleโ€™s frustrations Winner of Gorton and Denton byelection was driven into politics by growing gap between super-rich and the โ€˜rest of usโ€™

The small, brave band of MPs who represent the trampled, not the tramplers, has a very welcome new member.

We should all ask ourselves why, in a supposed democracy, such representatives are so rare.

How do Translators Find the Right Words? As Favorita by Michelle Steinbeck is published in hardback, the book's translator Jen Calleja shares notes on her process.

Faber asked me to write about translating Favorita by Michelle Steinbeck for their blog, so I wrote about translating 4 sentences www.faber.co.uk/journal/how-... @faberbooks.bsky.social

The Green victory in Denton is the result which will have the biggest effect on Labour, far more so than a Reform win.

The blithe assumption progressives have nowhere else to go has been proved catastrophically wrong.

Canโ€™t help thinking of this quote from a Labour minister, a year agoโ€ฆ

obviously today is a huge embarrassment for Matt Goodwin and for Reform, which is something that we absolutely ought to celebrate, but we must also remember it's a huge embarrassment for Morgan McSweeney and Maurice Glasman and all the Blue Labour weirdos, and that's important to celebrate too :)

Itโ€™s definitely a Ramadan traditionโ€ฆ Iโ€™d never thought of the health benefits before, but itโ€™s probably better for your gut to have a date before diving into a dรถner ๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ˜‚

Excited to share that Iโ€™m starting work on Aline Beiโ€™s A DELICATE COLLECTION OF ABSENCES, forthcoming from Summit Books in 2027.

Alineโ€™s form-defying, sensitive prose has been a huge success in Brazil for years now. Looking forward to sharing it with English language readers!
