On 8 March, we celebrate International Women’s Day! 💜

At the Trans-formations project, we are convinced that women play a crucial role in society and that it is imperative to denounce patriarchal systems.

Our team is mainly composed of women researchers!

📢We are starting a series of our recommended reading list!

📖Sara Martín Alegre and Michael Pitts have edited the book Masculinities in Contemporary Science-Fiction Television, where they highlight the ways in which divergent masculinities shape and are shaped by the science fiction genre.

📍On the other hand, Paula García-Rodríguez, at the panel “Aging female body”, argued that They Shut Me Up and The Substance reclaim and reinterpret the ageing female body, as it interrogates how they are rendered invisible within dominant discourses, marking them as socially obsolete.

📍At the panel “Racialised bodies,” Pedro Mora-Ramírez discussed the scriptions of the black male body in Ava DuVernay’s When They See Us (2009).

The second day was also a success!🤩

📍In the session “Body as Assemblage”, Dr. Juan Carlos Hidalgo-Ciudad put emphasis on the trans* subject in Future Feeling, which is constituted as a rhizomatic assemblage.

📍In addition, Dr. Rocío Carrasco-Carrasco highlighted the urgent need to reconfigure traditional narratives of use and embodiment by re-signifying marginalized bodies as dynamic agents of transformation.

Finally, our team member Auxiliadora Pérez Vides presented her paper "Disposability and Violence against Women: A Noir Resignification in Benjamin Black’s Quirke Series", proving the concomitance of human categorisation and stigmatisation with practices of disposability and violence against women.

They questioned the ways in which contemporary narratives re-signify bodies, affects, and spaces that have been culturally and economically coded as useless, wasted, or stigmatized.

Next, our team members @jtorferna.bsky.social, Vladyslav Shapoval and Isaac Linton Clewes presented their roundtable titled "Trans-Formative Narratives: Re-signifying Stigma, Waste and Queer Use in a post 9/11 World"

In addition, our team member @pgarrod.bsky.social presented her paper “'It’s my body!': Reclaiming the Deviant Body of the Monstrous Woman through Horror in Queen of Teeth (2021)”.

She argued that the misused, monstrous body becomes a liminal space of resistance, self-acceptance and conciliation.

They examined the ways in which contemporary texts re-signify bodies through transformative narrative practices, embodied trans* practices (Halberstam, Hayward and Weinstein), and critical posthumanist perspectives (Ferrando, Braidotti) as tools for cultural reconstruction in post 9/11 narratives.

Rocío Carrasco-Carrasco, Rocío Cobo-Piñero and Juan Carlos Hidalgo-Ciudad presented a roundtable titled “Trans-Formative Narratives: Posthumanism and Embodiment in a post 9/11 World”.
