Princeton Law grad. Wine, FDI/sanctions, biglaw, crankiness. Not born and raised in South Detroit: THAT'S CANADA. Dad to Spawn and Beast. 1st-gen lawyer. Semi-anon bc clients don’t need this. Old posts regularly memory-holed.
Also, your audience includes a solid chunk of people who automatically think “liberal” means “slightly less fascist,” so 99.9% feels a little low to me.
It would be so funny except….
What, you think we need it?
Same but 5
Toddlerhood of a Nation
ONE SIMPLE TRICK
Our officiant was super-into the history, and I just want to know when I get my cows.
(He also told us, after we completed the mandatory counseling and asked, that he thought we had the same 50-50 chance as any other couple. We both liked him a lot, which I think gets us to 52% minimum.)
Grew up in Detroit, live in DC, never lived anywhere that wasn’t “urban,” adjusting to the fact that I need to carry Narcan and meet my deliveries at the new summer place (Bernie’s is nicer).
Well, I am a sensible Midwesterner.
Yeah, yeah, you identify.
Well I have size 13 feet!
And big hands!
And…size 13 feet
So…I really liked the Twin Cities, but maybe I don’t have to stay super-updated.
Would you rather your partner mispronounce your name every time you turn them on? #gratitude
Oh, fine.

Hiring conversations - yes, I went to a Sportsball School. That’s not actually the point; couldn’t care less that you got a tryout with the Wildebeests before you blew out your knee.
But you were the captain of a varsity horseshoe team and did well to boot? OMG, you worked So. Hard.
You took the best idea. Not fair.
Sorry, did you say lawyers have ascended in prestige and wealth above bankers? You may know your de Tocqueville but don’t know your City (or Wall Street); you may wish to try again for a position with a literary magazine, as much as I appreciate that The Economist hires people who can write.
Alien -> Aliens
I’ll show myself out.
That is really, really not what privilege is for.
Get rid of it if you never want a GC to say “that’s a terrible idea“ again.
Harbaugh’s responsibility…I think I agree with that. I don’t think he condoned any of it, probably (I think he’s transparent about which rules he thinks are stupid and unforgiving about the rest), but I also don’t think he has any sense of other humans beyond extracting performance.
The standard is the standard. Rich Rodriguez was a crappy head coach and Jim Harbaugh is deeply weird, but both of those things are very different than what we’re talking about.
You actually don’t get to be a senior executive of a multibillion dollar business — much less someone responsible for kids!! — if you can’t meet basic responsibilities. Even if Dusty Mays and Brandon Naurato and Kyle Wittingham are really good coaches that I root for.
And do you fire a dude because said dude’s direct report just gave you clear evidence of harassment and an inappropriate relationship…with no witnesses and no lawyers, and whatever happens happens? What the fuck is this, amateur hour?
The hockey thing was really bad.
“Still, the timing of the decision — almost two-thirds of the way through the offseason — is shocking considering Manuel had the report on his desk three months ago.”
