You and me, we'd refuse to do this. We'd refuse to pretend it was unknown who hit the school, that it wasn't even suggested the yanks did it. We wouldn't struggle to answer the question of whether of not incinerating a school full of children was a war crime.
They do it, though.

yet more anti-Arsenal bias as they rig several easy draws so that we're overstretched in all four competitions at the end of the season and win none of them.

because some of these really are banger after banger. He was always just a bit too earnest and too cringy to really survive I think. Plus I suppose the music stopped being as good as time went on. doesn't help.

I feel like Bright Eyes have been lost to history a bit but I've been going back over them a bit because I realised I was just down the road from where Conor Oberst recorded the Mystic Valley Band stuff and I do think it's been unfairly tarred with the whole Bush-era Garden State indie generation

If I wasn't lazy I'd already have started recording my writing, which isn't really "podcasting" anyway it's just accepting that nobody reads anything but might bang on a 15 minute audio recording if it was on an accessible app. just a way of slightly widening who "reads" it. watch this space!!

I just feel like if you tried to do a Gen Z Mr Beast pro streamer Jackass it wouldn't have that kind of dirty verisimilitude. they'd be overreacting before the snooker ball even smacked into their groin. they'd hide the hurt behind their eyes.

I think one of my favourite things about Jackass and something which feels very true to actual adolescent friendships is that some of them get genuinely pissed off because they don't want to be pranked in that moment or it just hurts too much. they really begrudge some of it. that's the good stuff.

A particular character of young racist French people is that they have such a baseline level of coolness that they aesthetically trick you into thinking they're also going to be at the very least liberal. They really do elite racism differently.

basically no, my initial view is that it was a really beautiful bildungsroman embedded in a massive baggy dream sequence about capitalism that's just way too much. but there are also isolated moments in that dream sequence which are beautiful and he couldn't have gotten away with outside of it.

got about 3% of Lanark left, a very very curious book that I still need to decide if I liked or not. you'd have to call it "sprawling" and I don't think I ever at any point knew what was going to happen.

That's interesting, not the case at my last two libraries (UK universities). Though they had phased out card entry at the second so that's definitely the trend.

Not really a meaningful description for something written mostly in the 1970s but Gray-as-Thaw is a real proto incel, it's very self-critical. I like that stuff. Couldn't get away with it these days, he'd be finished.

I've come across that move in maybe 4 or 5 books and hated every single one. If someone did it well at some point I don't know who or when. All writing is masturbatory but try not to make it too obvious.
