Celebrating Women Authors,
#booksky #dystopianfuture

This book rides the line between tween and young teen. Joann enters cryosleep to repopulate Earth in 200 years, but wakes up alone. The book explores themes of resilience and optimism. I would like to read this with a class of 13-14 year olds.

I’m attempting the passport. I kept my married name (married very young so was my professional name), got divorced and remarried my newer name is a hyphenated mix of my first and second married names. I don’t like my maiden name.

This is a beautiful story about first love, identity, memories, and how we journey through life (and space). We often feel that longing to know where we came from. The entire story is a series of poems, not a spare word. 5/5🌟

This book is inspiring and powerful! I don’t think I can say enough good things about it. This collection of interviews, essays, and speeches are important to today’s struggle. Ms Davis ties together many threads of oppression. 5/5 🌟

I can support the science behind delaying gender surgery for minors, but there is so much science that says medicine, medical, and family support with solid therapy is the difference between life and death.

I agree with the spirit of this quote, but this is totally a white fight. It is up to white people to shatter the systems that were established to shelter them.

Most β€˜disabilities’ are only disabilities because as a society we choose to build worlds that are only accessible to a limited number of people. For example everyone can use a ramp, why do we even build stairs. Captions make movies accessible to most, why aren’t they available in public spaces? Etc

Heart wrenching story about grief, guilt, and the hope to go on when nothing seems worth it. It is beautiful and gripping. It started slowly, but then really drew me in. The ending was very special. 4/5 🌟

Books….

I have been addicted to Dungeon Crawler Carl. I caved to peer pressure on Dec 21st and started the audiobooks. I finished all 7 by January 7th. I have tried to read many other books over the last two weeks, but nothing is holding my attention. I gave in and started the books over.

Three of my top reads for 2025: Dungeon Crawler Carl Series (audiobook version is very addictive); I, Medusa (amazing retelling of the classic myth); The First Ladies (historical fiction about Eleanor Roosevelt and Mary McLeod Bethune).

Embroidery, crochet, and sewing. I do also β€˜tie dye’ with different teas and natural dyes.

About a week ago I got drug into the dungeon with Carl and Princess Donut (audiobooks, that are more like radio dramas). I am now on book 5 of the Dungeon Crawler Carl series.

As a woman of mature age, coffee is a trigger for my Interstitial Cystitis. Being off coffee has been life changing AND filled with grief.

A touching tale about life long female friendships, it is also is a cautionary tale for women in the US. It makes me so angry to know that generations of women have been terrorized by their government and as Americans we were involved.

It took me awhile to get into this novel, however by 1/2 way, I couldn’t put it down. The story is told only through letters. I really like having the main character be mid 70’s and dealing with real issues concerning family, health, and past choices.

On this day in 1917, the U.S. Army executed 13 Black soldiers who were sentenced to death and denied any right to appeal for defending themselves after a white mob attacked them.

Based on the life of a woman and the horrors she endured and witnessed as the β€˜yellow wife’ of a slave auctioneer. Not a book for the squeamish, however I think all white people NEED to bare witness to these horrific atrocities.

The experience Medusa had when SHE was put on trial for what was done TO HER, when words were easily twisted to make her doubt herself, one violent act β€˜ruined’ her making her an outcast monster forever still happens to girls everywhere. 5/5🌟

I feel like it is an important piece of literature and I am very glad I read it, but I can’t say I enjoyed the experience 🀣. It took all my concentration to follow.

I have a few different books going at a time. I use the Libby App (library so free) for audiobooks and kindle books. I read physical books in the evening before going to sleep. Typically, I have a nonfiction history, a nonfiction self improvement and fiction book club book.
