I got to moderate this great panel trying to understand the chaos of the first year of Trump 2.0โs foreign policy, with great questions from our students

Boycott/disruption of Hilton this weekend (action should be called โHeil Hiltonโ)
Book a room, cancel just before free cancellation expires. Ideally, cancel over the phone and tell them, "I no longer want to stay at Hilton hotel after the corporate office doubled down on housing ICE agents."
THREAD of offers of guest lectures (via Zoom) for Minneapolis-area classes so faculty can offer their students a top-quality education while dealing with other crises
Seeing tons of extremely generous offers. I'll try to post 'em all here--please add your own w topics you can cover & how to contact
Political Scientist, IR โ Happy to run a seminar session on civil war, peacekeeping, terrorism, or international politics of climate change if any of those would be helpful
Lovely to see the outpouring of love for Kimuli, whose presence is so very missed. Iโm adding here the โin memoriamโ colleagues wrote for the department (a bit more personal than the one from the university!)

A better remembrance (written by her colleagues in the dept) is here:

Encouraging. I mean, one hopes the American public doesnโt like having their neighbors abducted and their fellow citizens shot dead, but given what else it seems to tolerate of late (Jan 6, anyone?), I still find this encouraging
Protest sign reading โWhich side are you on? Good [above a picture of Renee Good] or Evil [with a picture of the ICE agent who shot her]?โ
Before I even got home from a protest over the shooting of Renee Good, I was hearing reports of CBP shooting two in Portland OR. FFS. Stay safe out there people, keep
It peaceful but make some noise cuz this shit is unacceptable
A friendly reminder that no ICE officer has ever been killed in the line of duty in a hostile incident.
Being an elementary schoolchild in America is far more deadly and dangerous than being an ICE officer.
Good analysis on the latest insanity, by @profsaunders.bsky.social
โ2026 โ defeat the dicksโ thatโs my motto for the year
Pavilion on fire
Oh the symbolism! COP caught on fire in the heat.
No one injured, thankfully.
(Not my photo, I wasnโt in the Blue Zone at the time โ guess I picked a good time to see a bit of Belรฉm!)
Dish of ice cream
Another dish of ice cream
Iโm learning a ton at COP30, but my most systematic research is on the ice cream at Sorveteria Cairu โ famous for their local tropical fruit flavors. Preliminary results: cupuaรงu and chocolate is a better combo than aรงaรญ and chocolate, though both were delish.

Many things are giving me joy tonight, not least that JD Vanceโs half brother lost 78 to 22! To a half-Indian, half-Tibetan-refugee named Aftab Karma Singh Pureval!!
Hey climate folks (or anyone who has thought about these things) โ with the value of offsets largely debunked, what do you do to ameliorate your impact when you have to fly? How best to self-tax for emissions?

Itโs a beautiful day to resist democratic backsliding!

Naked bike ride in cold rainy October is what we political scientists call a โcostly signalโ of resistance (the normal, if you can call it that! one is in the summer)
And what we Portlanders call โkeepin it weird, keepin it real, keepin it real weirdโ
Are you affiliated with UPenn (faculty, staff, student, alumni, or parent/guardian of a student)?
If so, please consider signing the petition calling on President Jameson to categorically reject the Compact for "Excellence in Higher Education."

Go Portland! Using its notoriously pain in the ass permitting regime for good!
Smart and beautifully written by a friend and colleague Iโm proud to have.
This is next level โthis meeting could have been an emailโ
OMG, they are idiots down to the people who write the menus!
16th Street in NW DC, the road filled with demonstrators carrying signs and marching, with the trees of Malcolm X Park visible in e background.
It was just block after block of people coming from Malcolm X Park headed downtown. Lots of energy despite the heat, and cheers from passersby, as well as church bells ringing in support.
