Calling for buildings of women and children to be set alight is not ‘free speech’.

I really need to stop listening to talk radio.
Almost every day presenters will ask why young people experience depression & anxiety.
A talking point second only to being mean about immigrants, LGBT+ people, or pretty much anyone that isn’t just like them.
Never seeming to make the connection.
You know people can be called ‘wong’ and have decidedly un ‘ching chong’ accents.
Just watched a fitness bro on Instagram say how unhealthy foods ‘with ingredients you can’t pronounce’ are.
Try listening to a British person say ‘Jalapeño’.
What do all these pieces have in common?
They never actually ask a registered dietitian on.
Talk 👏🏻 to 👏🏻 dietitians 👏🏻
When I worked for The Observer I used to see the most fact free pieces on nutrition written up by conspiracy theorists as if they were authorities on food.
Ditto for the BBC.
I’ve even quit jobs because of it.
The public really deserves better
And that’s because pretty everyone knows what the scientific advice is to be healthy.
But ‘scientists say pretty much what they have been saying for 30 years’ isn’t newsworthy (ie profitable)
Def not a new media phenomenon
Listening to a bunch of journalists (who I admire and respect) talking about how podcasts are full of misinformation about health and nutrition.
Absolutely true.
But *the exact same people* spreading these mistruths on podcasts have been doing so in conventional media for years.
All the same people filming themselves chucking milk down the sink are also the loudest voices when it comes to misinformation about food processing.
Which is really harmful to public health.
@mrjamesob.bsky.social Obvs, I’m your number 1 fan, so great to see you talk about the bill gates milk conspiracy.
This is why so much of the media discussion about ‘ultraprocessed food’ is so dangerous.
Often over simplifies really complex issues and leads to this kind of dangerous misinfo.
*Waives from across the room*
Wasn’t that a Tory policy?
Sounds like someone actually called a dietitian, rather than a borderline conspiracy theorist.
Refreshing change!
The nicest man in garden media too. 💚
If so, only in a good way!
Oh, lovely Jean, you can call me whatever you like!
Farming *really* needs much better advocates than the ones I have seen interviewed at these protests.
Oh! Thanks for adding me to the list. X
Can’t some unhinged columnist from the Telegraph pop up to call me ‘wokerati’ or make a racist pun on my surname, just to take the edge off?
In my hippy high school, we had:
a) Mandatory volunteering with charities helping the vulnerable.
b) A nursery to grow trees to restore a local rainforest.
c) Even an annual culture & food night to celebrate the founding of the United Nations.
All of this is less wholesome than my Bluesky feed.
Aiyoh! You oso at this party???
*Peeks in*
This is better than the bad place, right?
