May not be the best solution, but sometimes just considering an unconventional alternative helps. maybe the reasons it wouldn't work illuminate what really feels fundamental to properly conveying it

Depending on how it's approached, some parts could lend more to the writing with less or simpler visual elements for enhancement, so other parts can get more visual-leaning focus. Still a lot of work, but gives *some* degree of flexibility between drawing -everything- and "I wish i could show this"

Having been in a similar position, it feels worth asking, would you ever consider a static visual novel format? you can decide how much it leans on the art or the writing, variable by scene if you want. a little creativity with format goes an insanely long way with vision, much like a graphic novel
