Sometimes the castle helps the cats sneak into the food or the treats when it thinks they deserve it. The cats have learned this and will meow and headbutt the wall affectionately until the castle gives in.

Killer now has to try and find a eldritch-building proof cat food container.

The castle guiding Killer's (eventually several) cats to places where mice or whatever are hiding, and the cats are happy to catch all those itchy little pests for it.

Cat doors and little cat sized passageways, cat towers and cat toys all start mysteriously appearing at one point or another...

Begrudgingly forgives Killer for his cat-related crimes.

The cat grows up and starts running around and hunting mice and such that get into the castle, and the castle eventually grows very fond of it.

One day, scratching posts and cat beds mysteriously start appearing in the common spaces...

Of stairs on his way to breakfast the next morning.

The kitten gets old enough to start playing and being cute, and Killer explains that cats can be very useful animals to keep (mostly to NM, because he finds out killer is keeping it and demands an explanation) with this new knowledge, the castle

Killer brings home this absolutely pathetic kitten he found in the dump of some au, it's soggy and dirty and covered in fleas, and the castle is very offended that Killer has brought this pest into its walls, at first.

The castle makes its displeasure known by sending killer tumbling down a flight

This is so real, I get two chapters done at once and I'm like "omg I can post on a regular schedule and get ahead on writing and I'm so coo—" and I post ts the very next day 😭😭😭

And it makes NM laugh by playing jokes on the others in his view.

Killer is flirting with him and goes to lean against the wall with that stupid grin on his face and the wall is suddenly just– gone! Killer falls over. NM hasn't laughed that hard in a long time.

The castle is proud of that one.

The castle plays all the nicer pranks on Nightmare...

It definitely misplaces his pens or his paperwork whenever he's working too much. It irritates Nightmare to no end, but later, he usually tosses a little snack or a sweet treat into the corner... to show his gratitude.

I've got some interesting hcs about ambient magic creating these "auras" that can kind of interact and pass on nonverbal messages, so I think the castle could definitely communicate like that too!

Ooh, I like that! I've thought about this a little before, and so far the castle communicates through stained glass windows and mosaics, and speaks some broken English.

It speaks some older languages that only Nightmare knows much better, though.

I think Dust just... pets the walls sometimes, and hugs the pillars in the foyer.

The castle might or might not feel it, but it means a lot to know its silly inhabitants appreciate it.

The castle doesn't even play mean jokes on him often. No, it's very polite to him.

Nightmare is very proud of the castle for being nice to Dust, and not giving into its mischievous nature.

Much English, and it doesn't find speaking easy, but it tries very hard to speak when Dust needs it.

It mostly says one word phrases or incomplete sentences. Its voice is a high, whispy, raspy kind of thing. It's like a chorus of whispers made up of people who hadn't spoken in years.

Dust is very nice to the castle, when he can be. He tries to talk to the walls instead of his hallucinations. It helps when they whisper back or the lights flicker encouragingly. The castle doesn't know
