Republican elected officials are frequently saying things that would’ve gotten anyone fired a decade ago.

They, the world, would have been better served if they had sent him off to a seminary. At least then he would have had some exposure to Jesus's teachings long before he ran for president and it became a convenient political tool to claim he knew anything about it. Some of it might have even stuck.
