Great talk from @ludivine-grzelak.bsky.social from @thedohertyinst.bsky.social on "Revealing dose and repeat effects of a novel Influenza vaccine on humoral immunity".
Always excited when flu vaccine research moves ahead. More of this, please! ππ

Huge thanks to my co-first author Carolyn Cohen from HKU Pasteur, my supervisor Sophie Valkenburg, all our collaborators from Hong Kong University and the participants who made this study possible!

Importantly, this suggests that children may generate a highly targeted and functional immune responseβde novo, rather than relying on cross-reactive memory from other coronaviruses.

Children also have enhanced FcΞ³ receptor (FcΞ³R) binding, compared to adults β suggesting that their immune responses may be more functionally effective in targeting the virus.

We explored how the humoral immune response to SARS-CoV-2 differs between children and adults. Despite having lower overall antibody levels, children were shown to generate antibodies with higher avidity for the full Spike and Nucleocapsid proteins.

π Thrilled to share our newest paper and my first one in the Valkenburg lab @thedohertyinst.bsky.social published in @natcomms.nature.com:
SARS-CoV-2 antibody responses in children exhibit higher FcR engagement and avidity than in adults
