I’m still listening so I’m not sure if you clear it up or not, but I believe they’re considered Japanese in the original, with having studied in America, and their last name actually being Karuma. It’s very much like a Klavier type situation where they act foreign but they’re not.
Not exactly, it's the Texts & Technology PhD program at UCF. It's a humanities based interdisciplinary program, but I do try to incorporate my audio background whenever I can.
