To loosen up I'll also cut up some cheaper surfaces into smaller sizes and just start painting, often studies but it could be just messing around. That makes you actually start painting and it feels easier to get motivated on a larger piece, for me. Making a small draft of the final piece helps too.
YES. I try to remember that this isn't some final piece that has to be amazing, you always learn and will always get better so just do what you can on the current piece. You can always remake an old painting, or touch it up (I've done that years later).

The colors are actually quite pretty, in the Condor there's a soft gradient from pinks to yellows and even purples.
