Once you see the sagacity of @kenfollettauthor.bsky.social for using the face mask to symbolize where one stands on science and politics - in a book from 2012 about the bubonic plague - you canβt unsee it. Well played, Mr. Follett.

Hoping people around the US arenβt jumping to conclusions about LA based on 2-3 minutes of video footage. Thereβs a lot more peace and civility, which doesnβt make for exciting news stories. Newsomβs video message this week was truthful. King TACO needs to gtfo

THIS ONEβS FOR YOU PHILLY!
The Phantom Tollbooth was my favorite book as a kid, and one of the reasons was its fantastical illustrations. Thank you Jules Feiffer for enriching my childhood with your imagination, and may your passing bring new life to your cartoons and their messages
We're home again, and bracing for another windy week and another wave of dangerous, partisan-fueled misinformation and scapegoating. We truly appreciate everyone's kind words and offers of assistance, and we couldn't be more thankful to be safe
Our small family made it out of Pasadena safely, and our house is in a safe location. Our hearts go out to everyone experiencing loss at this time, especially in Altadena, Palisades, and Sylmar
I really want to read more, but Iβm often too distracted to get around to it. I think I finally have a solution.
There are no rules in this no manβs land between Christmas & New Years.
Read all night! Donβt finish a book! Read three books at once!
Just go nuts.
Ditto to PJC Cahillβs request π
That ninth day increased the value of my assets considerably
Just your typical southern gothic, magic realism, satire, Frankenstein homage

I think of this quote whenever I detect a student, or even myself, fearing failure. What weβre really afraid of is how great we can be.
βOur deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens usβ
Congrats! May 2025 bring you lots of readers
Hoping to finish Song of a Dromedary, my second novel, before I go back into the classroom on January 6
Just finished Bailuchien, and rated it 5/5! Excellent prose and vocabulary which Iβll be sure to use myself
Looking forward to the reviews of all those folks who said βCanβt wait to read your book over the holiday break!β #booksky
Guilty of contributing to this trend. But I havenβt jumped on the Guinness bandwagonβ¦ yet
The challenge lies in convincing people the signs to look out for
Sitting at about 8 so far (but James Michener's The Source and Ken Follett's World Without End accounted for over 2000 pages and 75% of my time). My wife is over 70 π #booksky
Combining two of my favorite things... Pillars of the Earth and crossword puzzles
On #InternationalCrosswordDay try the Ken Follett crossword.
geni.us/hjV45a Let me know how you get on in the comments.
Got 6 out of 13 upon first glance (it's been four years since I read it). The others I had to open the book (and imdb) to find
I enjoyed talking with Rick Steves about the reopening of Notre Dame for his radio show and podcast. To catch-up click the link below or search βTravel with Rick Stevesβ wherever you listen to your podcasts.

Mystery of a Dromedary has reached many milestones since it was first published in July 2024, but its first sale in a brick-and-mortar bookstore has finally happened. Not to mention the positive reviews that keep still rolling in. #booksky
#euphoniumsky might be my favorite hashtag ever
In Frankenstein, the monster threatens his creator: βI shall be with you on your wedding night.β Due to the monsterβs supernatural existence, Dr. F cannot seek help: βSuch a declaration would have been considered as the ravings of a madman.β This inspired Vernonβs dilemma in Mystery of a Dromedary
Iβll check out those shorter ones once winter break starts next weekend!
Iβll be a lifelong Follett reader for sure. Whether I like it or love it, I always learn something important from his writing. For his standalone Iβve only read βJackdawsβ and βNever.β What would you recommend from your titles for a fantasy/general fiction lover?
"Pillars" was incredible, but I read it years ago and lacked the energy to continue the series until last month. His "Century" series is another of his where I finished the first and may pick up the second somewhere down the line
"World Without End" by Ken Follett. One day I will finish the series
