Change is on the move in Tucson. Bold, outspoken leaders with real records on transit justice and complete streets are stepping up. People-first politics is winning ground.

@mckelleykc.bsky.social what a treat to connect with you!! Always gleaning great insights from your work π‘
When a child is killed by a driver, the question isnβt βWhere were the parents?β
It should be: βWhy was the street designed like a death trap?β
Pointing fingers at grieving families while leaving dangerous roads untouched isnβt just wrong, itβs obscene.

π£ TAKE ACTION: Contact your U.S. Senators by Friday, May 23 & urge them to include the Safe Routes to School Coordinator bill in Surface Transportation Priorities. Every state needs a coordinator to help make walking/biking to school safer for kids. #SafeRoutes
Every kid deserves a safe walk to school, not a daily dodgeball match with SUVs. School Streets = calmer mornings, cleaner air, and way fewer honks. Letβs make this the norm, not a novelty.

Proud of my hometown π
We were part of a group of families with kids who were kicked out of Gillibrandβs office. My son wonβt let that one go.
And thanks to @freedcproject.bsky.social for keeping us informed and organized!
Proud of my six year old who joined me to lobby Senators to Vote βNOβ today. His message was simple: βNo, this is not ok.β Thanks to @booker.senate.gov and @slotkin.senate.gov for welcoming us into your office and speaking with us.
Thank you @captmarkkelly.bsky.social . I was just at Hart with my six year old in tow. Born and raised in AZ and appreciate your leadership π
Absolute π₯π₯ from Sarah McBride: "We will not take a lecture on decorum from a party that incited an insurrection. I appear to live rent free in the minds of some of my Republican colleagues. The Republican Party is obsessed with culture war issues. It is weird and it is bizarre.β
Yellow masking tape on tiled floor in the shape of District of Columbiaβs flag
Black Lives Matter spelled out in yellow duct tape
Relishing small acts of defiance. This week, DC began removal of the iconic Black Lives Matter mural. This week, we were greeted with a replica. Albeit temporary and simple, but a poignant moment.

Thanks to those who have already created #DCStarterPacks - super helpful!
Any others to add?

Itβs amazing how decisions like safe, well-marked streets can create a ripple effect. They donβt just make roads saferβthey can reduce fear, build trust, and make a real difference for families. #CompleteStreets #TransportationEquity
Several years ago, partners in the City of Tucson led robust engagement to create an equitable #CompleteStreets policy. Iβll never forget hearing from undocumented families: safe, predictable, well-marked streets meant less confusion, reducing the risk of being pulled over.
Ooh, some great holiday book recommendations. ββTis the season to stock up the bookshelves! π€π
Pink lawn chair sits on a grassy hilly median
Multiuse path along a roadway
A well-worn desire path on a hilly median leading to a multi-use trail. Wonder how often neighbors have to dart across this roadway to get to this nice pathway. Not to mention the pop-up lawn furniture for people watching or to take a break from trekking back up the hill? #saferoutesnow
@bikeshare.bsky.social is my go-to for biking around DC- easy, convenient, and affordable transportation. But Xmas tree hauling has really leveled up my perception of these mighty mobility machines π€©
This sexy new protected bike lane in Tucson was a decade in the making. Mad props to advocates and agency staff for helping folks realize that change doesnβt need to be scary!

A map of a large intersection with red x's placed all over highlighting where the child was almost hit by drivers. Also notes on the page of things to improve the intersection.
A parent shared with me a map made by their 9 year old child (of that intersection) which was sent to the city 3 years ago.
"Red X's indicate the locations I have almost been hit by cars" Think about that.
π₯ OPINION: βThe career of teaching becomes more and more undesirable even for the most passionate of educators. Good teachers are leaving some of the best schools in Arizona, thanks to heavy workloads and low pay.β π’
