Lots of us, include those that don't believe (me,) have said for years that Democrats should never have allowed the GOP to claim the mantle of religious or moral superiority. The GOP, particularly in its current phase, is astonishingly weak on following actual religious principles.
Principles are for sale. Just need to find the right price.
This is our country. Donald Trump doesn't own America. He doesn't own the White House. Everything he does relies on our money.
We depend on Congress to represent our interests. They are failing us by allowing him to exploit our money for his personal interests. He & his party of sycophants must go.
I'm surprised Google thought they could buy off the fire dept for a measly $250k. I imagine it had to be worth more to Google than that.
The access to power is alluring for all humans. His cabinet, reporters, and the outlets are all human.
If the people in these positions would learn to be more self-aware, they could understand their own emotional motivations to "get the scoop" or "serve the boss."
I don't go in for most media-bashing on here, but this new thing where Trump calls access reporters during trading hours and gives them the SCOOP that the war's about to end is pretty egregious.
And if you know Donald Trump's "business" history, well, it's basically a lifelong string of over-confidence that ignores reality, & ends up in bankruptcy.
So no need to imagine very hard.
And of course, Trump NEVER had to pay the price for his decisions, and he's counting on not paying here too.
This might be your best post ever, Mr. Wolfers. For non-students, the connection between economics and psychology seems thin or non-existent. Thanks for making the connection so real with its relevance to war, and highlighting the dangers of certainty.
I'm not quite sure what to call this โ a video essay, an explainer, an econ lesson, or something else.
It's my attempt to explain the economics of war โ economic theories of how and why war occurs โ and to use that framework to better understand our current moment.

You can have the best armed forces in the history of the world, but if you are an incompetent criminal without a plan, you can still lose a war, and rather quickly.
A headline from The New York Times reads: Trump Tries to Sidestep Blame for Any Civilian Deaths in Iran
The buck stops with the President, this is his war of choice.
Ride in clown car, be forced to wear clown shoes.
NEW: The Iranian drone strike that killed 6 U.S. troops in Kuwait at the start of the war was far more devastating than previously disclosed.
Dozens suffered traumatic brain injuries, burns, and shrapnel wounds. At least one required an amputation. More than 30 remain hospitalized. (CBS News)
Toxic to society and civilization, too.
We've been at war with Iran since 1947, but we've also sold them one of the "most powerful weapons around" ... which officially came on-line in 1983.
Man, someone messed up somewhere if that's true. Which it's obv not.
The lack of consequences for flagrant lying is toxic to democracy.
So honored by this recognition of our reporting -- that was a real team effort -- about kids in family immigration detention.
And when they notice ladies looking at their feet, wondering why these little boys are dressed like they're doing dress-up with Dad's shoes on, they're imagining how these women are thinking about the size of their dicks. ๐
Yah, that might disqualifying. Sorry about that for you.
The death rate from using cocaine, the trafficking of which via boat will get you murdered by this administration, is likely far lower than the death rate from consuming raw milk,
I think that's exactly the problem here. He only sees the stock market, and our foolish war is in his way.
The timeline will get dumber.
Nah, gotta disagree. This exemplifies Cramer's intelligence and beliefs perfectly. He almost certainly was advocating this action because he want it done.
When people show you who they are....
116,000 Minnesotans lost health care coverage this year. Highest uninsured rate in almost ten years.
Fund health care. Not this war.
This seems like unitary executive theory taken to the extreme. That the President is a king and everything follows from that. The people's only role is is to elect a president and after that he does what he wants for 4 years, no checks, no balances, just a supreme ruler.
Before he joined the Trump Administration, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent wrote that tariffs are inflationary.
When he testified last month, I reminded him of his words. No matter how much he tries to deny it now, the presidentโs tariffs make life more expensive.
Trump's rushing to Kentucky today. Heโs not there to honor the soldier from KY lost in his foolish war, nor address Kentuckians concerns on affordability. Heโs there to help primary a Republican who pushed for the Epstein Filesโ release.
Members of Congress file court motion asking judge to stop Trump's plan for 250-foot tall Arch in DC
Filing: Only Congress "has the authority to approve the placement of monuments and memorials on federal land in the District of Columbia"
