If you’re roughly my age, it’s wild to reflect on the optimism for the future Americans felt when Obama was elected — young Americans spontaneously took to the streets to celebrate! — and contrast with what we face today. The falloff over the past 18 years is hard to process.

That Trump & co. are afraid of a Presbyterian seminarian is about the most wonderful thing I can imagine.
You can think "of course we'd pivot to vote Newsom at the last minute in the general if, God forbid, we had to, but let's not say so", but the people you're influencing won't all pivot on a dime with you. Some of them will wihhold votes in the general. Trump wins. We die.
OK, here's why: a Newsom presidency would be a massive disappointment, so it should be opposed fiercely in the primaries.
