well. but. Fanfiction is vast and varied and weird; the stories that emerge through the trad-pub-romance-bestseller are far less so & selected for marketability to non-fandom audiences, who then come to AO3 with grumpy expectations. This is publishing affecting fanfic as much as the other way round.
