I have some lore I’ve been cooking as to the nature of the wood and how viera were formed into what they are now and all that but that’s some more stuff for the locked vault in my head 🫢

And view the rest of the world and it’s inane workings as “the folly of man.” Many times through the story she rebukes being called a “child of man” as they believe themselves as children of the wood and thus were shaped by it.

Thinking about it and I know it would steam Tavi so bad that viera are considered a race of man academically bc in my lore they see themselves as something entirely different than man. They view themselves as beings of the forest (why you can not be a viera once you leave bc the two are intrinsic)

It’s very beautiful and somber and the environment is just as much a part of the movie as the characters are. The two main characters bicker and fight a lot in their relationship so it’s a little hard to watch if you’re sensitive to that stuff (I am) but it’s worth the watch imo

Also think I want to rewatch this movie, it really shocked me on first watch! The first scene is literally the two main male characters having sex (it was made in 1997) and it just made me realize how far into conservatism we’ve regressed (many things do when you look back)

Been thinking lately how interesting it is that writing physically is beginning to feel more private & safe to vent my thoughts vs in a digital world that’s so surveilled & waiting to be datamined and how different that feels to when I first got online and it felt like an island to myself. Weird.
