When Bertem closed a key road for bridge works, they didn't wait for complaints — they monitored traffic in real time across local streets. Result: detours working, unexpected truck problems flagged, residents informed with facts.

Last thursday, @oxfordshirecc.bsky.social launched their latest recruitment campaign for their growing Telraam network of citizen-powered traffic monitoring devices.

Last month, we brought together mobility experts, policymakers and citizens for a co-creation workshop on how we can further optimise Telraam data.

Our traffic counter tells me that on our unplowed street today, thus far, we have had 9 people riding bikes, 32 people walking, 180 « cars » and 36 « trucks ». Cars and trucks in quotes because the Dutch counting device seems to sometimes count SUVs as trucks.

Pas de problème, nous sommes effectivement originaires de la partie néerlandophone (flamande) de la Belgique. Mais bon, ici aussi, un SUV (américain) de cette taille est plutôt considéré comme un camion que comme une voiture particulière.

Glad you're satisfied and counting with our sensor! Just a small note: the traffic counter is not Dutch but Belgian ;-)

Last week, we deployed 7 new traffic counting sensors surrounding the LandMarck site in Kortrijk.
By combining outdoor & indoor sensors over an extended monitoring period, we aim to build a highly detailed and qualitative picture of traffic composition and volumes.

This week, 120 families received an early Christmas present: their Telraam sensors! Within just days, 55 sensors are already active and counting—and this is only the beginning. By early 2026, 200 sensors will blanket the region in Belgium’s biggest citizen science traffic monitoring project to date.

Vorige week mochten we bezoek ontvangen van de medewerkers van de gemeente Leudal. Hun enthousiasme was zo groot dat ze zelf naar Leuven kwamen om de toestellen voor multimodale verkeerstellingen op te halen!
