The Carney government is rushing Bill C-5 through Parliament. In its current form, it would be a massive gift to Big Oil.
Prime Minister Carney just announced his One Canadian Economy Bill (C-5). If it passes without amendments, it would be a gift to Big Oil. This omnibus bill includes the Build Canada Act, which would fast-track approvals for projects that the government decides are in the 'national interest.' As it stands, this Act would undermine critical environmental protections, democratic processes, and Indigenous rights. It will set the stage for fights over infrastructure, including pipelines, for years to come.
Carney is moving fast, trying to push Bill C-5 through the House of Commons before the summer break on June 20. We have to move even faster to pressure our MPs to improve this bill, and ensure it prioritizes people and the planet over corporate profits. Email your MP now at the link in our bio.
The climate movement isnβt against building things, but we have to do it right. We do need ambitious action to develop critical nation-building infrastructure, such as an East-West grid, high-speed rail, and a public green homes program. But what these projects require is federal leadership and funding, not legislative shortcuts.
If #BillC5 passes as-is it would be a HUGE gift to Big Oil π¨ With climate-supercharged wildfires raging across Canada, that's the last thing we need. Tell your MP to take action now: win.newmode.net/350org/c5

As scientists we are often exposed to upsetting findings and we should not have to bury the feelings that our research elicit - I'm glad it's adressed openly here (and yes these results are bleak)
CALL FOR SPEAKERS: Looking for scientists that collaborate with artists OR artists that collaborate with scientists! Deadline to submit abstract is Feb 28. Check out boundaryxr.ca for more info!
